hello all this is my first post on the forum, bought an 06 liberty crd last year and havent had any problems untill now. When I reach about 50kmph i start to hear a loud vibration from the front end which gets louder the faster I go . Cant tell if its on the left or right but it disappears when i turn right and gets louder when I turn left. I checked for play in the tires while lifted and theres none at all so that Should rule out bearings being the problem?

cant seem to get my tire off even with the impact probably to cold is this normal, I have never had to take a tire off in the winter .

Any advice is greatly appreciated

Do you have a lift? How many miles on your Libby? Both of these will effect the front suspension/running gear.

I would check the half axles and the front drive shaft CV's. Grab hold of the half axles near the CV's and give it a good shake, particularly the passenger side. Any play could let you know that the CV is giving up. Do the same thing with the front axle and check for play there as well. With a flashlight check all the boots to all the CV's to make sure that they don't have any open cracks. Open boots = grease gone = bad CV.

Jack the front wheel off the ground and grab it at the top and bottom. Try to push the tire back and forth from the top and bottom. Play here will probably be worn bearing/hub. It can also indicate bad ball joints.

Let us know what you find.

Thanks very much for the reply jimy I dont have a lift as of yet and my rig has 105000Kms so around 60000miles. I will check my cv's tomorrow in the daylight seems like the only other possible cause besides the bearings. When i try to push my tire back and forth with it jacked it doesnt budge can I rule out bearings completely? thanks again

I don't think you should have any noise from the bearings if you don't have any play in them.

Lifting the Jeep puts added stress on the passenger side half axle CV's. It seems pretty common for them to wear out more often. Yours is not lifted, but it still could be that one of the CV's has gone bad. Do the checks I recommended and let us know what you find.

I have had loud noises from the front end about the speed you are talking about. Once it was the right axle CV. Once it was the rear CV on the front driveshaft.

Try a search on wheel bearings .... I seem to recall reading somewhere here that if the noise disappears when you unload the weight on one side of the jeep by turning, the wheel bearings are the problem. Hopefully someone will chime in with more info.

Check the rear boot on the front driveshaft, they rot/tear away and then the bearings dry up

50 K mph !!!!!!!!

I would think at THAT speed there would be more than a little "vibration". :ROTFL: :ROTFL: :ROTFL:

But seriously, vibration at specific speed usually means bearings, u-joints, CV, or something in the rotating assembly of
the drive train is about to go south. As stated previously, check bearings, etc., especially where the driveshaft is concerned.

thanks for the replys ppl
So with the car on the ground I gave both the half axles a yank and it seems that they both have play up and down and in and out not a lot but id say 1/8th of an inch by the feel? The boots seem okay im going to keep looking and see what I find. By the way the passenger side half axle is a few inches longer than the drivers side im assuming this is normal??
