Tranny issue from a local member- I have some sort of electrical problem with the transmission to fix now. It seems the auto will not shift on its own. Diagnostic reader threw out a whole slew of transmission relay codes. Autozone didnt get the same codes but threw out the TCM. As it stands right now it appears the trans will shift manually but not to all gears or to OD when the button is pressed. Anyone ever deal with an issue like this on their Jeep? If so what would be the best first step for me to take? I was quoted by a transmission shop 200.00 for them to root out and resolve what ever electrical issue there may be. They also did not seem to think it was an issue with the TCM. Once the electrical issue is resolved a proper evaluation of the transmission can be made at that time as well. (Fluid looks good but who knows what could be wrong considering the electrical issue was not addressed at least for 2500 miles) Any input would be greatly appreciated" What do you think it is? |

As long as your transmission shop is reputable, I'd let them figure it out. Just my opinion. Good luck. ![]() |

Have the same thing. This issue as it was told to me poses no harm to the tranny. I have a corroded or loose connection and its causing the check engine to come on one in a while. codes indicate that its just was i said above. I spoke to the transmission specialist and he nailed the symptoms on the nose. Intermittent check engine light coming on, and occasionally the automatic not shifting from 4th to 5th gear. That has only happened once. anyhow, rooting out the source is the problem as they could potentially find the problem right away or it could take longer, so the quote of $200 is probably pretty spot on. My guy told me anywhere from $100 to $300 depending on how long it took them to find...that said, he reassured me that driving with this issue will do no harm to the transmission. |

thanks for the responses. Here is another post by the guy "Weird thing here... So I went and got the oil changed today (too lazy to do it myself). On the way home the check engine lite disappeared and the tranny started shifting on its own, up and down no problem.... After I got home I decided to take it out for another spin and the light was back on and it wasn't shifting again. I took it to Advance Auto Parts and had them pull the codes. Multiple tranny codes came up, including the TCM, and an O2 sensor. After I took it home, I took the TCM out and blew out the connector and the TCM with compressed air for computers, and I blew out the connector that connects to the transmission. After that I put it back together, and the check engine light was still on. BUT.. its shifting on its own again with out any issues. Im going to take it to Advanced again to get the codes pulled tomorrow, but I suspect and hope it will just be the lingering O2 sensor code. Im not holding my breath or anything, but it seems like a pretty odd problem that may be fixed with a simple cleaning of the connectors. I will keep updating this thread with how it turns out. " what ya think. He is getting me the trouble codes. But I think your right Pote. |

Here are the codes I got when I had the original Diagnostic done with the higher end OBD II scanners at a transmission shop: (this was while the tranny wasn't shifting before I fixed the bad grounds in my tail lights, and blew out the TCM & Tranny electrical connectors) P0700 - Generic Code from TCM Usually Followed by my specific codes P1698 - No CCD Messages Received From The TCM P0888 - Trans relay output Always OFF P0841 - LR Pressure Switch P0846 - 2C Pressure Switch P0871 - OD Pressure Switch P0988 - 4C Pressure Switch P0876 - 4D Pressure Switch P0884 - Power Up @ Speed 4WD Codes (No longer showing & 4WD works fine in high/low ranges) P0837 - 4WD Switch P0838 - 4WD Switch Low P0158 - 2/2 O2 Sensor (Still needs replaced) P0455 - Evap System Leak (Fixed with new gas cap, code is gone) Today I forgot to get the codes pulled/cleared again (will do it tomorrow), but I did drive over 50 miles and even on I25 at 65mph and still didnt have any issues. I can even turn off and on the OD with the button. Seal, Let me know what you can find out. I will post up tomorrow what codes come up before I clear them again. I think I'm gonna buy a new O2 while Im at it to eliminate that code as well. |

Jeepbum Is this your CRD you are having the problems with? Just wondering if the problems were there before you did the conversion or during? |
