I thought I would be different and Mount some D-Ring shackles up front, instead of the tow hooks. In the Army our Hummers didn't have hooks they had the d-rings, so I think I'm going to go that route.

I tried to search the forums, but could find no info. Okay now the problem, has anyone ever tried this? If so how did you mount them?

I've seen one where he took two ball mounts ( the smaller receiver, type) and mounted them sideways where the front tow hooks go and used the ball hole as the d-ring mount. I thought it looked pretty good. Of course you could just get the ARB or RL bumper.

Those aren't gonna work on a stock KJ bumper AT ALL.

http://www.jeepkj.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=318

It may not be the greatest but I think it would work.

Try these ,they fit an TJ but if you take the tow hooks off of the Liberty.you will see thay have two bolts holding the hooks to the Bracket. Not positive but you can check the pattern with any tow hook

Those actually might work if the bolt pattern matches up with that on the tow hook mounts.

Is this what you are looking for:

Look on page five of my CarDomain site for more picks of the install. I used a two inch drop hitch. This lines them up centered with the factory notches in the '05-'06 bumpers. You will have to measure for the '02-'04's.

That looked like a super clean install. I'm taking it you had to use a drill press to make the mounting holes. If so, a machine shop could do that for me right? How much would you guestimate the entire setup costs? How much time should I alot myself to complete the project?

That was a quick response.

You can do the fabrication work in a day are two. Plus then priming panting and install. All told about a week. I was able to do every thing (but the frame) on regular drill press. No machine shop needed.

You will need access to larger than 1/2" drill bits. 7/8th bit to enlarge the hole for the shackle 9/16th bit for the bolt holes. If you don’t have them this is where it can get expensive. All hardware is 1/2'' grade 8. The reinforcement bar is 3/16th x1¼” flat steel.

You can figure about $150 +/-.
-Shackles ¾“ $15-18ea.
-Hitches (1¼“ w/2” drop for a ’05-06) $20-25ea.
-Steel $10-12
-Primer and paint $10
-Nuts, bolts, washers and spacers as needed $30-50

My install need:
--4- ½”x 4or4½” bolts
--4- ½” x 1½” self threading bolts (to secure the reinforcement bar. You will not be able run a normal bolt inside the frame this far back and get a nut on it.)
--8- ½” washers
--8- ½” lock washers
--4- ½” nuts
--8- 9/16” nuts (used as spacers to separate the hitch from the frame)
All hardware needs to be grade 8.

For a ’02-‘04 bumper. You will have to measure the difference from the notch in the cover to the frame. To figure what size hitch, bolts and spacers to use.

I must say, I do like this alot more than the tow hooks. I'm going to give it a shot for the 2002 bumper style. If I suceed, I'll add to this post with pics and info. Thanks for the helpful information, W3CSX!!
