has anybody removed the handle over the airbag on the passenger side of a kj, and if so how do you remove it? I'm trying to get more leg room.

my wife wants the bar removed from her 04 too, she hits her knee on it when she rides shotgun. (turning it from an "oh stinky poo" bar to a @*%!!&$#% POS bar)

I think i recall someone doing this back when the 04's came out w/ it and they swapped in the trim panel that is on the earlier models and removed the air bag light.......iirc....kinda fuzzy

was this a mid-year change on the 04's? cause my 04s dash is exactly the same as my 02 and 03s

if anyone comes up with a source for the non-bar blockoff plates I'd be interested in grabbing one.

There must be a gazillion '02 KJ's on local scrapyards all over the US.....

It looks like you would just need the regular trim from the early libertys without the handle. They come in 3 colors, Dark Slate, Taupe and Brushed Aluminium.

I would be willing to trade my brushed aluminium trim to someone for their handle/ABS Light as long as it is the Dark Slate color.

I could rant about this but i'll just say... I spent part of yesterday morning visiting a half-dozen junk/scrap/salvage yards in north/central NJ... they had NOTHING. no liberty's, no wranglers, no durangos, no ram 1500s, no ram 2500s, none of the other cars I could use parts from. 'yards in NJ are just a former shadow of themselves. believe me it pisses me off.

if you want more legroom - you need to move the seats back.

Actually KJ's are extremely rare in junkyards here in the states. You see maybe one or two here and there but get stripped very fast.

Kinda sad since last week tried to find a rear axle shaft for a '04 KJ,none in any junkyards within 500 miles and of course on back order at the dealership, but got a alloy wheel for a '10 honda crosstour in town(they had 26 good OE wheels for them).Go figure.

I'm seriously considering buying a wreck from an auction, just to scavenge for parts.

especially when you consider the freakish nature of having an 07 stick shift.
