Mine started doing that too not all that long ago... maybe a little less than a year. I haven't fixed it since everything else still seems to work as it should.

Interesting.. wonder why that is =/

Yup. With the KJ running I can pull the key straight out of the cylinder

I don't think that is supposted to happen. I had a 1987 Honda Prelude Si that did that. you could not start it with a screw driver but you could pull the key out with the engine running. It was mighty convient if I left something inside, I didn't have to turn it off to go unlock the house. That car had about 135K on it when I noticed that. By 150K the car wouldn't stay running and I could not understand why it started but would shut off in 10 seconds. after playing with it I realized if I held the key in the on position it would run and stay on. I had to drive it to the locksmith for a new ignition switch holding the key to run all the way being careful not to engage the starter. So look out that could happen to your KJ too.

The cylinder is just worn out. Common as a vehicle gets older. As long as you can't start it with a different key or something like a screwdriver, you'll be fine. I would get it replaced just to be safe.

Knowing my luck, I would go unlock the house and then forget the keys in the house. I probably wouldn't even notice I left them till I got where I was going and then :banghead: . Oh well :ROTFL: .

Strange, but don’t get it fixed, think about all the ways this could help you. DUI – Officer, I swear, I never even turned the car on… look! Speeding – Officer, it’s worse than the Toyota’s, look I pulled the keys out when she got past 90! Get a Michael Knight watch and call your Jeep Kit. I’m sure there are some more cool things... Oh! On a date – Tell ya what, if I can get the keys out without the car shutting off you invite me up for coffee. See, there’s lots of cool stuff.

P.S. I don’t condone drinking and driving but it’ll give the cop a great story to tell when their shift ends.
