Battery went dead in 08 Jeep Liberty. Put in a new battery, now where the mileage should be it displays "error". How can this be reset for the mileage to appear?

I tried holding in odometer button, turned key, waited for all lights and bells to stop, turned off key, then inserted key, and it still displays error. Am I doing this wrong or is there another way to reset it? Thanks!

Just spoke with a Jeep mechanic. Told me it would have to be reset with a "scan tool" whatever that is, and the cost is $99. Any other ideas? Don't even know if I'm being told the truth by dealer.

I don't know for sure, but I think that the scantool they use at Advance Auto or Autozone to give you a free scan of you MIL codes could do the reset too.

Remove both cables from the batt for 15 mins. The system should reset. :BINGO:
