As of June 2011 Jeep will pull the plug on exporting the Liberty. Europeans can now only get the Wrangler, Compass or Grand Cherokee.

Yeah...great idea. Now all KJ/KK owners will go to Toyota next. Idiots.

I don't want nor can afford a $80k GC. The JK is way to small and clumsy for my DD needs.

Compass...really? If I want a car I'll buy anything but a JEEP.

Sad part of this is that the 'new' JK Sahara comes with electric windows, mirrors, A/C, GPS and a redesigned dash (and more luxury crap you don't need in an offroad rig) to 'fill' the void left by the departure of the Cherokee.... The JK unlimited (4door) pricetag: $6000 more then the KK CRD. Wow, now I really want one...not.

:?

I blame fiat. Same people that wanted to get rid of the compass and patriot by 2012. While tony and some others dont like the car based crossovers, they make it easier to get into a jeep with the current fuel prices. I have considered in a few years (if they dont bring a diesel 4 door wrangler to the US...errr keep a few here) getting a patriot or compass as a DD and using the KJ as a fun rig.

But I agree with tony, without the liberty/cherokee where are those people who cant afford a full size but want more then a crossover going to go? Fj cruiser. Sad. :banghead:

Actualy it's worse then this. All Chrysler and Dodge dealerships had their contracts cancelled.

Fiat now 'owns' all overseas action it seems. Dodge as a brand is whiped out, the Journey now comes on the market as a Fiat.

Chryslers are now Lancia's and therefore all dealerships are Lancia and they sell JEEP on the side.

In support of my European brothers, I'm selling my Liberty and wheeling a Toyota.

Well I guess thats what fiats grand scheme is all about. They wanted small car tech and now that they got it they want it in their name and not dodge, chrysler or some jeeps. I have been quite worried about jeep since the brand seems to be shrinking alot lately and seems like it will again very soon. The fiat road map seems to be on par with its claim a few years back. The commander is gone, and its looking like the patriot and compass are close too. Soon there will be the "icon" and maybe the GC left and while I love all jeeps I cannot afford either.

So dont blame jeep, blame fiat and those who @$#% up chrysler forcing it to require a buyout.

Rumor has it that they will build a new Liberty for 2013, based on a Fiat platform...

Wohoo, they are going to make a car out of it.

Like all the other go nowhere RAV4 and Honda CRV's...

The RAV4 doubled Toyota's income though... and that's saying a lot considering even in the early 90's Toyota had enough $ to buy Ford and Chrysler and still have a billion $ left liquid.

The Liberty exists only for the RAV4... Chrysler wanted to cash in on the success Toyota had and they were successful... for a little while the KJ was the #1 in the class but as Toyota and Honda updated their vehicles, the Jeep stagnated and by the time the KK came around, no one cared anymore.... no one. Lots of Jeep peeps were really supper pissed that Jeep came out with a KJ... just sayin'

FIAT (Fix It Again Tony) is following the trends just as the Jeep brand has in the past. If it means changing the Liberty to a car-based mini-ute to make a bunch of $ they owe it to the stock holders to do so. I've said it before many times, it won't be long before the entire Jeep line will be IFS too.

I guess Ill start saving to import a diesel JK and stick with it until I die. Now I know what JL is sayign is speculation, but honestly I fear the worst alot of the time and sadly it seems to be aiming for that goal.

If only they put the 3.7 or kept the 4.0 in the 4 door wrangler I wouldnt worry much about the diesel.

I'm waiting to see what the new Liberty will be. People hated the thought of the KJ, and everything turned out ok, right?

The rav4 is just a camry, built on the same line.Sure it did sell but the KJ was never built to compete with it,nore should be even considered in the same class. The KJ was the "revamped" XJ to fill a niche that the XJ was just getting to old and outdated for.Gas prices have killed the KJ/KK not the rav4,crv,and Escape(camry, accord, and Tauras).New CAFE/CARB standards forced the compass/patriot to the lineup and the even newer CAFE/CARB standards is killing them all to crossover's for mpg's.

I know where your KJ has been, been on a few of those trail runs with you.Do you really think you could have gone on those trails with a camry?

I see many KJ's at work every week, and as well known worked on many through RL,and for the most part no major issues other then normal maintenance stuff.Sure there not perfect, but like every other vehicle that comes through have been far more trouble free in the major issue area then any toyota and honda as a whole. That is not being biased since I own a KJ just a factual statement from what I have personally seen at work.

Honestly if the KJ had a SFA from the factory (like it should have) there wouldnt have been an issue with the liberty. The reason people scuff at the Liberty is due to IFS and how most jeepers think that = not a jeep. Why did they choose IFS? I havent a clue. Mixing suspension types always baffled me. Should be all solid or all independant IMHO, and there is no reason the liberty should have been IFS. Ride comfort? Please. My wife even says my jeep's rear feels smoother then the front on rough terrain or bumps.

Sadly its waaaay to expensive for most and requires a lift greater then most want. If I could be at say tommudds height with a SFA and 32s I would poop myself. But thats impossible, and if it is it still would ccost alot more then my jeep is worth since I dont have the setup to do the work myself (nor have I logged enough welding/fabricating hours to solo the task).

LoL I wish it was just me being cheap. Trust me if I could afford to do a SFA swap it would be in or in the process of being done.

I'm cheap, and I am doing SFA... Of course it has taken me 3 and a half years... :? between hunting and gathering used parts and not having any time to work on it...

LoL I had to sell a car to buy a frankenlift and last time I checked I dont have anymore cars to sell to fund anything serious like a SFA.
