I was checking the front rotor runout on my 2005 lib crd today and noticed when I had my son put his foot on and off the brake the upper and lower control arms moved a good 1/4'' to the rear at all four bushing points is this normal? I had the vehicle up on jack stands and had it in four wheel drive with the front wheels off and it in drive. |

I've replaced the upper bushings once, I noticed when I took it apart for the SFA that the lower arms where loose which would have explained that clunk I could never track down up front. |

I guess my question to all is should there be front to back play in all of the control arm bushings both lower and upper? |

Should they flex or deflect? Yes. 1/4" play or deflection is too much. Time to change them out. |

Somewhat agree, they will flex and the lowers can flex as much as 1/4" and be 100% normal but the uppers should not flex much more then about 1/8" at most.As long as they are not cracking or torn they most likely do not need to be replaced right now. I replaced my LCA's due to being torn from offroading/flexing and being brand new OEM they have about 1/4" total deflection brand new.It was easier and far cheaper to get whole new LCA's with the bushings already pressed in. |

You can say that again. I replaced my bushings and it was a royal PITA to find someone in this town to press them. One guy broke his press and he recommended another shop and they had them done in about 20 min. It is a PITA but new LCAs here in my valley are around 1100 each! Yeah no kidding. The bushings were 119 and it cost another 120 to press them. Plus 3 days of running around trying to find someone to press them and 3 days of getting yelled at by the mother in law...priceless. LOL.Oh and the bushings I got are Moog. There are a couple of cheaper ones out there but why mess with it time and time again. With these new Moogs in I am not planning on doing the work for another 130k...God willing. LOL |

LOL Wow they incresed in price,I replaced my LCA's in '07 and they ran $450 for the pair from the dealership. They wanted $50 each for each bushing(3 per LCA) and $1100 per LCA to install said bushings($2200 total for both sides). So I bought one bushing and the special Chrysler tools designed to remove/install those bushings($150),broke the tools in 30 seconds and ordered new LCA's 5 mins later. After breaking the tools designed to remove/install those bushings I fully understood the dealerships pricing for replacing them, basically they set the price so high to discourage it as it's more headache then anything else. |

TJKJ, It might be Vegas pricing. Darn near everything here is a good 40%-500% higher than anywhere else. I like to blame the Californian's. |

sorry guys I have not been on line recently. According to what your saying there is a little play in ths bushings. I cant comprehend why there is so much allowable play. How can an alignment be preformed with all that play? |
