 Post subject: Liberty making LOUD popping noise

the sound seems like it is coming from the back. it is a very loud noise and there is a burning smell when I get out of the jeep.

Could be lots of different things. I would pull the tires off and just start checking everthing for wear, broken parts, anything unusual.... etc... What type of smell is it?
