Hi All,
I am new here as an author but I had read a lot about EGR and things aroud it.
I have Liberty KJ 2006 2.8L CRD for two years now. I have imported it from Delaware to middle Europe.
I bought my KJ with 75k miles and now I have nearly 100k miles.
I drive in town and on highway to my weekendhouse.
Car had no major fault - just common windows electric issue, cabin fan regulator failed.

10 months ago the CEL went on and I found the EGR is in a trouble. As the EGR and issues around is a very good business for services.
I did replace the EGR valve, by my self, but the problem was inside the EGR air trottle valve. I dismounted it and found the general problem (Germans did some real bad mistake in designing this peace of crap, it is a construction problem) - three of the plastic teeth on the wheel are broken and blocked the el. motor for move. So the shutter ended-up open all the time. See my photo. Image
I did some reparation but I found it did not help, the shutter is not moving, as I tried various possition by finger and monitored if it would move from close to open when the ignition is ON. - no response and movement and the CEL still ON.
I think that the electric part of the EGR air throttle valve is gone - maybe the electric motor is burned out because it could not move as the broken teeth blocked it? (the shutter could not be moved, before i did some repair).

What shocked me was my servis diagnostics stop. I was driving with bad EGR air flow throttle valve for over 9 months, than I stopped to Mercedes servis for checking it for hi-tech diagnostcs (not just my ELM237 cable). Before the Mercedes diagnostics was done the jeep run normal with high power. But after the diagnostics the car run on 60-70% of performance. Something during the diagnostics has changed and the car electronics found some issue and reset the parameters....maybe.
Today I will try to unplug the MAF, if it will get the power back.
HAS ANY ONE SIMILAR EXPERIENCE with the electric fault of the EGR air Flow Throttle?

Now I am seriously thinking about some modification.
I want do the Elephant Hose Modification or Provent. I want to bypass the EGR issue like disconnected the MAF but I want to buy some kits to override the CEL because of disconected MAF.

What came on my mind regarding the EHM and Provent is... The oil vapor from the crank case, does it have a second purpose like to lubricate the intake of the Turbo ? I am a little worry that the Elephant Hose Modification will case some trouble to my intake part of the turbo as oil vapor will be missing ?

Thank you for your advice and opinion.
regards
Otto

Lots of people have had problems with both. A Search in the CRD section will bring up hundreds of threads on the topic.
