i have a limited black 06 and im in the process of blacking it out. the only problem is that its got a lot of chrome and theres no way im going to just paint the chrome black. i still want it to show that its limited and has all the chrome options. im thinking of using black chrome paint to just darken up the chrome but keep the shiny metal look.

i feel that using black chrome is very risky and might ruin my grille, rims, etc.

so has anyone done something like this before? i dont want to sand the chrome at all so should i spray it with adhesion promoter before i paint? i am obviously going to do a bunch of really light coats but im still worried that the chrome will turn out darker in some spots. which clear coats are you using?

I imagine that an adhesion promoter and any HIGH GLOSS black would be find but I may be wrong.

IMHO you'd be better off finding a used grill either online or in a junkyard and painting that.

AFAIK sanding and priming is the only way you'll get the paint to stick.

If you're careful, and take your time, there should be no problem.

As stated previously, using High Gloss paint will achieve the desired effect.
Use a scotch brite pad to "scuff" the chrome, and apply several light coats.
(Simple "rattle can" paint will work...... just don't go cheap.)

Allow ample drying time between coats..... don't rush it.

I can say from previous experience, the effect looks pretty cool. :pepper: :BANANA: :pepper:

I did the grill, all the side trim and molding, and even the diamond plate
accessories on my old truck, and got lots of compliments.
Even got asked a few times where I got the powder coating done. :SOMBRERO:
