I have a 2004 Liberty with the 3.7 and a 42RLE. It has a little over 45K miles. I pull a boat sometimes but always hit the button on the gear shift to take it out of OD when I tow

I probably want to have the Trans fluid changed. Should I have the flush done or can I just change fluids and filter. I don't like the local dealer so where can the flush be done - if not there? I really don't like the dealer here. I can do some minor stuff but will not tackle this. Will need to hire it out...Any tips on what to do or not do. Special Fluid or not????? Somebody told me special Mopar fluid --- true???

It seems like it took longer than normal to go from Park to Drive and kick in gear...Maybe even 3 seconds and then THUNK and it went into gear sorta hard...Jeep was in a bind...Does not do it now --- should I worry or not??? Seems OK now - but that was weird.

Jeep has been a good reliable truck and I want to keep it and not hurt it..I like it.

Thanks.

A drain/refill only get's 1/3 of the fluid out, granted changing the filter is very important.A flush replaces 100% of the fluid.

You must use ATF+4 in your trans.

The offical list of approved fluids for your trans..................

Im pulling this from the dead, but I am long overdue for a tranny fluid change @73000 mi. I have heard and read different opinions on this. In the past I have always gone with tjkj2002 aproacch and took it somewhere it could be fully flushed. After reading some online discussions though and talking to some friends they say this is not good. Forcing the fluids through the tranny can cause some sort of problems...although they couldnt really elaborate on it. Is there any truth to this at all?

A trans flush does not force fluid through the trans,it also does not "reverse" flush it either/Good trans machines use the trans pump to pump the fluid.Just opt for them not to use any chemical cleaners, and yes the dealership is the best to have this service done as they will use the correct machine and fluid.

The problems you hear about is from poeple that had underlying trans issues before the service to begin with and the trans was going to fail either way.
