Got my oil report from Blackstone today. Its showing the following out of range:

Antifreeze %: 0.21 (Normal: 0.0%)
Sodium: 105 (Normal: 31)
Silicon: 23 (Normal: 8 )

They said not to be to worried since everything else was within range. However....I love my jeep so Im worried.

I'd be worried as coolant kills engine bearings fast. You have crack head/block or bad headgasket and it will only get worse.

How many miles was on this UOA? Also, what air filter are you using, 23 is fairly high. Most good air filters will keep you under 4 silicon at the time of a normal oil interval change.

If you love your Jeep so much, how come it has antifreeze in the oil?

Had about 7500 on the oil which looked really good when changed. Amsoil air filter, oil filter, and oil...

It was seafoamed back in feb and the oil changed to this sample.

I would pull another UOA at the 3,000 mile/2 month interval. Are you using the Amsoil UOA pump and drawing through the dipstick tube? 99.9% of all people who own vehicles don’t take UOA, so don’t panic about the higher numbers. I’m fairly confident that there are people who are driving their KJ”s every day with numbers in the critical zone who have no idea. Like I said, take another sample at the 3,000 interval or at 2 months, whichever comes first and go from there.

It’s possible that your air filter isn’t sealing very well, hence the higher levels of dirt, or the filter may be wore out if you have tried to clean it a few times.

You can love your Jeep and still have antifreeze in the oil. It doesn’t have to equate to neglect.

I pulled the sample when I changed the oil. I have a futomto (however it's spelled) so I stopped the flow about half way and fill the sample tube. I'll send them a new one around 3000 like you said and check the filter seat tonight.

Thanks guys.

Keep us posted. How long does it take you to log 3,000 miles?

Update 09/15/2011:

Got my new report.

Mileage: 122043
Miles on Oil: 1530

last time Antifreeze was found at 0.21%, this time 0.0%. Sodium was 105 (normal is 31) this time it was 19. Silicon was 23 (normal is 8), this time it was down to 17. They said the silicon could be something already in the oil.

Still haven't figured out why the antifreeze showed up in the first sample? I'll run another test about 2500-3000 before I change it.

cross-contamination?
did you use a funnel to fill the oil?
change the coolant lately? not necessarily on the jeep?

np Once you send in the first one, they run it within 24hrs and mail the results. Once you get it in the mail you can sign up online. Shows up right after they complete the test.

That's good news! I usually pull a UOA once a year in all my vehicles just to make sure things are looking good. It gives me a lot of comfort knowing that (A) my motor oil is doing it's job (B) knowing that I'm mechanically sound, and (C) knowing when I need to change intervals. I’m about to send off a UOA in my John Deere riding lawnmower just to see how my Amsoil 10W30 is holding up. Amsoil has so many types of engine oils with different additive packages, that each oil has it's own unique characteristic and purpose. Each engine also demands different needs for total engine lubrication. I've never tested coolant, transmission, or differential fluids, but I know guys who do. All this may sound a little overboard, but when you figure the cost of vehicles, it’s really cheap insurance.
