Despite WARN peeing the pool and breaking under pressure, it still comes in first.

Yeah let's see it broke at 16,000lbs,almost twice it's rated pull.Sure it's expensive compared to the others(only $400 more then the other wnich that pulled 16k),but the warranty and actually able to find replacement parts was the reason it won,oh and besides the motor is made in Oregon.

In this case, you get what you pay for. They're rated #1 for a reason.

Old news JL, that said warn is way over rated, they rest on their laurels. I use a wonder nice Chinese winch, works well and did not cost a bundle.

We too use a less expensive Chinese made winch which has never let us down in any situation. ( It too has been submerged in water while off roading and continues to work just fine!) This company also has a North America wide dealer network and readily available spare parts and excellent customer service. (I called to ask how much it would cost for an additional wired remote and an additioal battery wiring harness and after suppling the company with my name and address both were shipped to me free of charge! Not something I ever expected as their factory direct prices were very reasonable to begin with!)
Not to mention they also manufactue winches for other "Name Brand" American winch companies! Right down to the same wired remotes as well as part numbers!
By the way, what do you think the Chinese military use for winches on their military vehicles?
Chinese made winches!

I always get a kick out of people complaining about Chinese made products.
Even Warn has products that are made in China!!!

If you break during the test, it should DQ you... you can say it was the best of all that broke but it should not be ranked 1rst.... especially when a $300 winch did not. Warn often does not stack up in these tests historically but they do have a #1 rated advertising budget.
No one finds it ironic that for years they've been telling us that they are better due to their "extreme water resistance" and it was the Warn winch that polluted the test pool? Personally, I lol in the direction of WARN and people who think this test was a victory for their quality and reliability.

Ask yourself this, if someone offered you a free 9000lb warn winch, or a free 9000lb t-maxx... which would you take? It's nice to see the big dog get whooped by the little guy, but I'd still take the Warn hands down!

I happen to be a big supporter of HF stuff, it works! But it is essential you do your own quality control inspections before buying, and immediately test the product when you get home. In my opinion the main problem with some of HF's products is the quality control before it hits the shelf, its been getting better especially compared to about 6 years ago, but testing is still essential.

I'd take the WARN due to the higher resale value. Some fanboy will always pay top $. Then I'd take the $ and buy a winch that didn't shat the bed.

The other winch that pulled 16k cost $1000.Can't DQ on the final test when the end was pulling till the winch stopped.

Slurs will not be tolerated and editting will replace it. If you don't like it, talk to me or other admin/mods offline.

Trusting "test results" from magazines... just like motor trend and the awards.. whoever pays the most to the "tester" wins... I have had 1 Warn on my old Ford M8000... worst thing I ever bought for that truck! Got a MIlemarker after and it was awesome for 3 years I had the truck! The warn didnt even last 1 month. ( used a winch alot working on the Farm as a Teen)

Bottom line, a magazine test is a biased part of a company's advertising budget! Do your own research.

its comparing apples to oranges...but for what it's worth i have a smitty built xrc10 on my KJ and my dad has a warn power plant on his TJ rubicon. the power plants compressor has failed a few times.. and parts were always replaced for free even out of warranty. His winch has failed to work a few times due to dirty connections (he doesnt keep it covered.. but it's never seen winter or salt). my cheap XRC10 has always worked (except once when i plugged the controller in upside down). never let me down and it sees weather all year around including salt and winter (everyday of it). the warn is still 'pretty' where my xrc10 has faded and rusted in some spots. but still pulls like a beast every time i need it.

but based on those tests... i'd buy a tmax

Yeah my WARN never gave me any issues but once but it was not WARN's fault as mounting a winch "feet 1st" was not a common way to mount winches. They did not know about how the winch mounts in a KJ's ARB bumper(at the time) which requires to clock the motor and seal the original drain hole and unplug the other drain hole(takes like 2mins to do).So my motor filled with water and it could not drain out and fried it.Called WARN to get a new motor and they sent me a brand new winch free of charge even being way out of warranty and it did include a update sheet for "feet 1st" mounted winches when I unpacked it.
