I have to vent a little about this....I had to cancel my Frankenlift order because after talking to my service tech, I now know that my particular dealer is basically finding ways not to cover things under warranty for those that have lifted their KJ's!! From what I gather, lots of people are lifting their KJ's and having problems (not Frankenlift, but others)which has prompted my dealer to not cover anything related to the suspension change. Even if it is a "remote possibility" that the lift affected the parts in some way...they will fight not to cover it. Unfortunately, I am going to have to wait until my warranty expires until I get my lift. In addition, I have to check my extended warranty policy as well. My KJ only has 15,000 miles, so I have LOTS of warranty left. Anyway, I just thought I would vent a little bit. And be jealous of all you out there who has the Frankenlift! LOL.

That is illegal. Plain and simple. Find another dealer to take your KJ to for service and tell these guys to take a hike. Search for the Magnussen-Moss act online and learn your rights.

See I probably would, just cause I am one of those who does not like to be messed with, BUT the closest dealer who is not affiliated, is 6 hours away. No joke! Thanks for the support though. I will just do other "non-modification" things to Bullet until my warranty expires....like skid plates and stuff like that. I am sure I can find ways to Just Empty Every Pocket! LOl. I will research that act you mentioned though, just in case I change my mind and decide to get dirty with them.

You should also be able to cancel the extended warranty and get some money back. So, if something breaks and they won't cover it, use the refunded money to pay for the repair.

It is a jeep, jeeps go off road, and get lifted. It has been this way for ever. GET THE LIFT... I can take a picture of a NEW TJ with a Dealer installed ProComp lift and 33”s, parked under the Jeep Dealer’s sign with a big red sales tag in the window! NO BODY would ever buy that from them if they were not going to honor a FACTORY warranty! If that was not the case… then that dealer just bought an expensive lawn ordainment!

Dealers don’t make money off warranty work... they do off sales and their own services... Threaten not to continue your purchasing from them, and how your friends wont want to buy anything from them when you tell them about their sour service.

Also someone correct me if I am wrong, but dealerships don’t loose anything buy doing warranty repairs either. They get reimbursed for parts and labor from DC. your dealer did not build the jeep, so why should they eat the cost for the repairs?! And as stated above warranty work is A LAW!

Tell them you can just take your KJ 6 hours away and get it fixed no problem. And tell them in your eyes as a customer that it is in your benefit to take your next purchase there too, even if it is 6 hours away, you still see it as a wise investment because of the superior service they offer.

AND, tell them that you still receive survey forms from DC about your Jeep and the dealer you bought it from... all it takes is one negative survey and the dealer WILL hear from it from DC.

They are just lazy. plain and simple.

Every time I go into my dealership they try and blame one of my issues on my modifications. Its funny how I can tell the guy at the desk the problem and how he dosent believe me until the Tech concurs with what I stated to begin with! Dont let the dealership push you arround. If they think that you dont know what your talking about or that you dont know about the rights you have and how they are breaking the law, they will push you around ALL the time! I believe that DC will do warantee work on lifted Jeeps up to 4.5". If you still dont want to get the lift, look into lockers, better tires (I have some that will fit stock if your interested. PM me), skids, winch, bumpers (if you want them) and any other accessories you want.

Heck! Some dealerships put lifts on the KJ and sell them. "broncsrule" bought his new Renegade with a lift on it, from the dealer (they installed it). That definitely means they can't blame the lift and not honor the warranty.

If you read the act, it is on them to prove that your modification specifically caused the problem. Now if you have problems with the lift components, then their factory warranty would cover that, not DC.

And to answer another question, no dealerships do not loose money on warranty work, they just do not make as much off of it as if you paid for it. When I worked for FORD, they paid the actual repair time (not what the book says it will take as the dealer charges you) and they do not get the profit from the parts sale as they do when you buy the part. It is fraud anyway you look at it when dealers try to find a way for you to pay for what should be warranty. Also dealers make the choice themselves, many cases until someone complains to corporate or regional reps, the parent company DC for us, does not even know they are refusing claims.

If you are too far away from Junction City or Harisburg, I would talk to the service manager, then the owner, but I would go in with the act in and so you can kill them with the power of knowledge, and then you will notice how differently they treat you.

Everyone wants to fight the dealership, probelm is $. The dealership and Jeep have way more and can drag out the proceedings to such a degree it makes fighting for your/our rights almost futile.

Sorry to see that you have to wait on your Frankenlift. Heather mentioned it to me late today. The only thing I see issues with are ball joints, and c/v axles. Both parts are relatively cheap to replace. Even if your whole suspension warranty was denied, you will be switching most of it to aftermarket anyways. Most extended warranties are junk anyways so I would just go for the lift and enjoy the Jeep.

I'm not a big fan of extended warranties, because almost every extended warranty I have purchased on a vehicle has been very wordy and they do their best to deny claims on most stuff. That said, our TJ has been to the dealer many times under warranty for small stuff with a lift and 35" tires. Not a bit of trouble on most things.

EDIT: This post is by Quinn..aka MacGyver......not by Heather, BTW. (I, Heather, must have forgotten to log out at work and Quinn posted here not knowing I was still logged in.) Sorry for the confusion.

They also might be trying the sad but true, cheat a woman trick. Have a man go in and talk to them and see if he gets a different answer. Then you have them for discrimination (need it in writing or taped though).

Thanks, I appreciate the support. The main problem is that where I live all of the Jeep dealerships are owned by Lithia. The closest non-Lithia dealer is 6 hours away! I have had problems with Lithia in the past and for me it is just easier to wait and avoid potential headaches. I don't know for sure if my extended warranty will be effected. I was so steamed about the factory warranty that I needed to quit thinking about it for awhile and approach it when cooler heads prevail. "Frankie" will just have to be on my wish list for awhile longer. I think the main problem is that folks around here don't lift their KJ correctly and then try to get the dealership to pick up the tab for related breakages. Who knows.....

Go ahead and get the lift. It sounds like this dealer will try to weasel out of warranty work nomatter what you do.

Check and see if they will be more lenient if they install the lift.

It's also a good idea to make friends with those service guys, find the guy with grease under his nails, not the metro sexual who hates wheelers. Try to go to the same guy everytime. It will pay off later when you need a favor like replacing those fake lug nutz after they fall apart..

btw...... the lug nutz are not covered by the warranty even though the fake chrome falls off after rotating your tires a few times. It's considered wear & tear.

I've got the Frankenlift and really like it. I had the Daystar before that.

My upper ball joints wore out

1 dealer said "nothing wrong with your jeep "

1 dealer changed the upper ball joints and rack and pinion on the extended warrenty, with no mention of the lift tires or locker.

it's all about the dealer
