Power steering system's whining ('04 Renny). Here's the Symptoms: Couple years ago the PS started whining a bit when turning as though the pump were failing. Took it to Chrysler stealership in St. Charles, IL (AOVID THEM AT ALL COSTS!) and they gave me some song-and-dance with a $5,000+ estimate. i politely told them to go play with a hair dryer in the bathtub. Had Lou's Jeep work on it in Geneva, IL (quality shop), and for a couple hundred they stopped corrected the prob. I don't recall what they did exactly and the paperwork's buried as i've not really unpacked from the move. Last winter the PS whining came back on the colder days until the vehicle warmed up. In spring I had the fluid changed as it was due anyway. The last 3-4 weeks the whining has come back as described above except the weather/temp. has been great. It also does it even warmed up under hard wheeling (i.e. the rock quarry at Badlands). i'll have it looked at soon enough but figured i'd put it out here first to see who may have some ideas. Thoughts? |

A PS whine is air in the system and/or a bad pump. You can have a leak which does not leak in a PS system also and would be the return line fault. |

The Return line is probably the Culprit like TJKJ said, I've changed the rack (Both end seals and the top seal where completely gone),The pump about 5 times (2 where junkyard pumps) and The lines once. On mine the return and pressure lines where laying on top of one and other which wore the return thin. |
