I've noticed lately that my wife's 2005 Liberty w/46k miles on it has developed what appears to be lifter or chain tensioner clatter. Has either of the lifters or chain tensioners been an issue with the 3.7 ? |

I have replaced hyd chain tentioners in a couple kjs . I dont know if it is a common prob. , I bet if you dont change oil regularly or use crap oil it can cause the tentioner to clog up and not work proper !! ![]() |

You're down the road from me!![]() Anyways, we've changed the oil every 3-4,000 miles, so sludge would not be an issue. There's only 48k miles on ours. Why did you have to change out the tensioners in the other KJs ? How big of a job is it ? |

If you haven't been into a over head cam motor before this might be a bit of a learning curve ! there are three timing chains and three tentioners. With only 48k on your kj, I would only replace tentioners and let the rest go. You will have to remove everything on the front of the motor in order to remove the front cover to access the tentioners !!! ![]() |
