Engine rattles and loses power when accelerating

Hello everyone,

For few days now I have the engine rattles and lose power significantly when I accelerate. No rattling when idle except when I'm fueling the car as I don't turn off the engine while refueling.

Also, performance wise, acceleration is not as responsive as what I used to have. When i push down to accelerate the car doesn't respond immediately. Where should I look? I thought it's the catalytic converter, but when I changed it the problem is still there. Now I'm confused as there is no error or check engine light.

Thinking fuel pump, fuel filter, injectors, spark plugs, or some loose engine air pipes.

Yes. It's never below 110 around here.

That's really bad....

although autoscriptor - you might want to do some compression checks
the K&N filters are great at power improvements - because they're less restrictive - and because they're less restrictive they don't keep out sand as well as a paper filter, and if you've been running that for a few years - the engine may be worn out.

milder issue would be - if you haven't changed plugs in the last year or so - that's a good start

Yes I have been using K&N for a long time now. I really wish it's nothing serious and it comes down to a fuel pump or bad injectors. The car runs perfectly for few minutes before it warms up.

Hi,

This is now fixed. The guys at the Jeep workshop told me that they have cleaned the throttle body and the injectors. Car runs smoothly again. However, I'm starting to notice less MPG.

Now get rid of that K&N filter and install a good quality paper or better yet an Amsoil on and take care of part of the problem

just remember sand in the intake = cheap DIY port & polish on the heads :ROTFL:
