Post subject:  HELP: Not sure whats leaking!
recently I have has these puddles show up under my jeep and they're about the size of my hand laid flat. Now when I run my fingers through the puddle and then rub my fingers together it feels really lubricated, so it cant be water. I tried to smell it and it doesnt smell sweet, and it doesnt "look" like oil...really thick and black..its pretty clear. I have located the leak and when I run my fingers through where it's leaking it is clear and mixed with oil...wondering if the oil isn't from the oil pan though as it runs right past the oil pan seal before falling to pavement. I have included pics of leak below...what are your thoughts guys!? :?: Front Main Seal?

Note Jeep is a 3.7 V6 Gasser Sport 4x4...diesel is my truck...not to be confused with screen name

upon further review...think it might just by my oil pan gasket that's shot and its just spraying oil everywhere. Just replaced the radiator after it cracked spraying radiator fluid everywhere...may be mixing together in engine bay and creating weird consistency.

Could be the front crank seal,pretty common on 3.7/4.7's,not really hard to change if you got the Chrysler specific puller.The seal is $10 at the dealer,did mine a few weeks ago and didn't even open the hood to change it(being SFA'd helped there big time).Make sure it's not coming from the waterpump or the front cover seals(what the waterpump bolts on).

Where is the water pump on these engines?

You might be right on the crank seal the more I think about where the leak is coming from.

The big black pully right above the crank pulley,either has the mechanical fan attached(if HD cooling is installed) or just has a threaded stub shaft(non-HD cooling).
