On the way to work this morning it was rather slick on the roads and one unfortunate person slid into me as I was turning off of the parkway. His vehicle was really mashed up as it went at an oblique angle underneath my hitch. I didn't see any damage, and I have looked again now that the rain has slowed down a bit.

It looks like I have a UHAUL hitch bolted directly to the Unibody frame. I didn't call the police and I wasn't worried about it, but a guy at work has one of those land yacht SUVs and he said he thought the same thing when he had a similar accident a few months ago only to find out that there was extensive damage to his vehicle.

It doesn't appear to drive any different, should I be worried? Has anyone on here had a similar accident? Is there something I should look out for?

You may go and have it checked out just to be sure but they are pretty strong.
I have been hit 4 times now in the rear, 3 vehicles had to be hauled away, last one drove off with antifreeze pouring out of the radiator.
So far mine has been limited to the tail gate being shoved in just a little on one side where the spare tire mount bolts on.
But no matter what should always get name and insurance information you never know what may happen on down the road

I would be worried. I do auto-body work and my uncle worked in auto-body his whole life. He has several stories of people that didn't think anything was wrong only to find out they needed $2000 to $3000 to fix the problem.

One story happened to me. My cousin and I were driving down the street in his F-body Camaro when a Fox body Mustang rear-ended us. Fairly hard hit, but not crushing. We got out, looked at the damage and at initial look, it didn't look like anything happened. The guy wanted to drive away saying it didn't look like he damaged ours and he didn't care about his damage. My cousin almost agreed. I said no and called 911 to report an accident. Dispatch told us to move our vehicles to the nearest parking lot. When the trooper arrived, he also commented on how little damage there was. In fact, I vividly remember him saying, "Ah, a new bumper skin will fix it." I showed him the minor crease in the rear fenders and that the rear window was farther away from the deck lid than normal. I also said that if we could get under the car right here, I bet the unibody rails are crunched.

He wrote the ticket, exchanged info, and we went on our way. Vehicle seemed to drive fine.

Took it to the body shop.... guess what... $3700 later, the car was fixed. If I hadn't have urged him to get a report, he would have been out of pocket. The whole rear of the car had to be alighned back up and the rails had to be cut and re welded back straight. Rear fenders replaced, etc...

I'm not saying that anything IS wrong with yours, but you would be supprised at what a simple hit can cause that seems harmless. If something hidden was done, you have to get it fixed when someone else is responsible.

My wife was backing her Audi out of a spot in the local grocery parking lot when she noticed a Subaru backing up towards her. She stoped and honked, but the dude continued. They hit. She called me and I told her I don't care how little damage was done, call the police. She did. He was mad. The officer gave a no fault decision. Luckily all I had to do was respray the bumper. But she had no clue what was done and I didn't want to be out money for someone elses mistake if I could help it. Crap, paint and a bumper skin cost over $500 on that vehicle. Luckily I didn't need a new bumper skin.

It may take a little time, but I always urge people to call the police anytime two vehicles collide. You never know what damage was done. And on vehicles today, even the smallest part that gets broke can mean quite a bit of money.
