Who here has built an adventure/expedition trailer? I'm looking for ideas.... I recently purchased someone else's unfinished cargo trailer camper conversion... I'm wanting to turn this into a dual purpose trailer for hauling my motorcycle to rallies, and camping in while I'm there, and tackling mild off-road (forest service and logging roads to get to good camping sites). What I got was an 8' long x 5' wide x 5' interior height motorcycle trailer with a 2,000 lbs axle and springs. The hubs on the axle match the bolt pattern of the Liberty, but I'm planning on upgrading the axle very soon to a 3,500 pound version with brake flanges, and greaseable hubs in same bolt pattern, to match my Liberty, and keeping the 2,000 lbs. springs for a smooth ride. I was hoping to utilize my Jeep's stock rear shocks on the trailer, but at the present height of the trailer, they would be mounted almost horizontally... The PO had the trailer wired for 110AC 30 amp shore power by an RV dealer; and it has three 110 outlets and a DC converter. 12v dc runs to a fuse panel that powers a ceiling mounted light with 2 1156 bulbs and a roof vent fan w/a thermostat... I'm hoping to add a solar panel or two to the roof of the trailer along with a charge controller and a deep cycle battery, and add a two pole flat plug in-line in the output from the DC converter to allow to run of of just DC, or AC with the converter.... So far I have given the trailer a home made 1 1/2" shackle lift and switched out the 185/65/13 wheel and tire combo for some 235/60/15's that I already had. They are mounted on some 15X8 steel rims with 3" backspacing...I would like to eventually have both the trailer and the Liberty wearing 31x10.50x15's on Cragar D windows in 15x7 with 4" backspace...Front spring hangers 1" longer than the trailer has now, along with 31x10.50's would give the trailer the same ground clearance as my Liberty. I've been looking into ideas on several tear-drop camper websites, cargo trailer conversion sites and off-road/adventure trailer sites (australian sites are great! Home of the beloved ARB/OME products!!) Any ideas I could gather from the great people here would be awesome!! Thanks, Jeepin'WNC
