Water pump #2 is leaking after only 20,000 miles, looks like I'm going to have to replace it again. I went with a cheap aftermarket one from Advanced Auto last time. Any suggestions on a brand? I'd like this one to last a little longer. |

I took tjkj's advice when i replaced mine and used OEM. Working beautifully. For a part like that you want quality, not cheap garbage. Seriously, people seem to think aftermarket non-OEM is the same quality or better than the factory OEM even though they tend to be cheaper. Use the real stuff for the fixes. Just replaced mine a couple months ago and glad I went with the Jeep brand. Also, pretty much anything you can buy at the dealershit you can get for cheaper than their first mentioned price. Everything is negotiable, dont be afraid to shop around for what the good price might be. I find i get the best discounts when I call in advance to see if they have i in stock and how much. They usually low ball the number just to get me to come in, if they don't I ask if its the best price they can do and 9 times out of 10 they will give you a deal. |

Thanks for confirming what I was already thinking. I had been under the impression that OEM parts were engineered to a lower standard so you'd have replace them sooner, but the more I dig into the information, the more I find on why OEM parts are superior. Basically it boils down to economics, if an OEM parts supplier creates a supply or quality issue that slows the vehicle assembly line down, the supplier faces fines from the automotive company (and a potential loss of future business). Slowing production lines isn't an issue with aftermarket parts, so they're engineered to a lower standard. This seems to hold true for everything except tires. Tire from the manufacture are put on the vehicle to impress the buyer during the test drive, not what happens to them after a few thousand miles. |
