Ok so I know this guy that wants to trade my quad for his Jeep CJ7. I'm on the edge of doing it, but wanted other peoples inputs.

My quad...

Bigbore kit so its a 686 stroker
FullFlight +5" A-arms
Rear axle +3"
Nerfbars
FMF header and pipes
New tires and wheels front and back
K&N Filter
New handle bars & grips

THE BAD
Needs a battery
2nd gear is shot....gonna be at least $800 to fix

Still runs and drives and I've told the guy this.

The Jeep .... a 1974 CJ5

No rust....came from FL
New plugs/wires/cap
Lifted ( 5" I think)
Needs shocks
Needs carb clean
Needs TLC
Runs and drives
Good project

So should I pull the trigger or not? Input from people that know CJ5s would also be helpfull. Thanks :JEEPIN:

Oh...CJ also comes with a new soft top in the box. The rear tire is flat but when you air it up it holds air for a bit. I'm thinking this could be a fun project to drive home and start.

I wouldn't even have to think about it. I would Definatly trade a little TLC and it could be a fun toy or driver. Parts are easier to come by than you think for the CJ and the are really easy to work on if needed. I will help as much as I can with whatever you need for it. If you don't trade is there a price on the CJ?

He didnt mention a price. I think my quads worth more but with the tranny going out it would be worth about the same as the CJ I'm estimating.

After having taken part in two engine swaps of Cj-5's ('79 and '80), lifting and tires, and everything else that comes with acquiring a CJ, I would absolutely make the trade. What year is that CJ? I know after putting 33's on the '79 and rebelling the i6, the Tranny has yet to fail. IMPO it is the best tranny Jeep made. I can also help you when needed, just shoot me a PM. Once I get back to the states, I really want to get my hands on either a CJ or Scrambler.

EDIT: Silly me, I did not read the run down on the CJ. I would be much more inclined now. the '79 also had floor board rusting and rusting on the rear corners, but it was a good place to learn to cut pieces out and weld in new ones. Please let me know if you need any help.

Thanks for the replys everyone. I think I'll tell him yeah and see if he will this up coming weekend. Knowing my luck he'll get rid of it by then. I'll call him and see if I can get him to hold it. I think it would be a good canidit for a chevy 350/350 combo down the road.

another good thing about the CJ's is there there is ALOT of space under the hood. I think I read an article in CRAWL MAG where a guy dropped an enormous bread truck engine in it.

If that CJ is all metal and no bondo, then I would trade in a heartbeat.
