fuel economy
I get around 13ish- all city driving with my stock KJ Renegade on Yokohoma ATs
It has a K&N cold air intake but in the months ive had it, its done pretty much nothing mileage wise

I cant seem to find a thread on this for gas Libertys. I realize most people dont buy them as economy cars but i'm interested in seeingwhat kind of mpg they get. Especially stock ones. Please post up your hand calculated mpg and any mods that might affect it such as larger tires, engine or tuning mods, gear changes, etc... Oops, forgot. Also add your driving conditions, city/highway/rural/dirt roads etc... And your driving style. Such as leadfoot, drive the speed limit or 10 over, accelerate easy, etc... Thanks. |

I've seen claims of 15-22 stock. 22 being newest KK. I got 19 in my 08 when I was stock. |

I get between 15-16 mpg throughout the winter and 17-18 throughout the summer with 05 sport, 2.5 lift, and 30x9.5 tires |

I actually just posted a similar discussion. I hear people say 17ish is the norm. I used to get that when I first bought it. A month later i changed to full synthetic oil and it went to 13MPG with street tires. Changed the oil to part synthetic and get up to 15.8 now, but 13 in city. Pretty crappy! People keep saying "they don't make them" or "they don't buy them"... for "gas mileage".. I cannot think of any good reason that these engines need to dump gas like they do. I consider it plain bad engineering. |

With 10 ply 235/85/16s (32s), performance mods, and 3.73 gearing, roughly 3" of lift and steel bumpers all the way around and full skids plus about 400lbs of static cargo, I get an average of 16-18 mpgs highway it has more to do with how fresh your plugs are, and your driving characteristics and proper tire pressures than "engineering", other factors like driveline parts creating drag including crud in your transfer case or diffs create further negatives there's really no reason why a kj should get below 14mpgs on the highway, even with M/Ts i got 15-17, if you are there's likely a maintenance item that's been overlooked or a driving characteristic that needs to be altered |

my 2006 kj when it was stock got 23.6 highway cruise control at 56mph in 6th gear City 16.6 now lifted, with tires, 4.10's, extra weight (tools, high jack, winch, backbone system,....) NOW... 16.1 mpg at 56mph in 6th highway City 11 ish... |

15.6 mpg AT tires, Performance Muffler, K&N Drop-in Air Filter. Half Highway and half city I average about 5 mph over the speed limit on E-way Yes, I do drive it a little hard. I am at 198500 Miles... so I'm pretty happy with the MPGs |

Yeah maybe my transfter case needs to be relubed or maybe they put in the wrong tranny fluid.. i don't know. |

If your that concerned to ask about mpg's on a Jeep it may not be for you.Your mpg's will vary drastically from what one person get's to the next and so on. Funny thing is my mpg's just seem to get worse over the years,from 16 city and 22 highway to now 9 city and 17 highway ,can't figure it out at all why I get bad mpg's.

I don't think being concerned about your MPG equates to anyone needing to go a different direction, I would say it equates to people worrying that6 some kind of hidden damage is taking place and they don't want to be stuck in the middle of nowhere with an engine fire or similar. We worry about the vehicles health overall and when people post way higher MPG than you, well it's extremely common sense to want to know what the issue(s) could be if any. The idea that you shouldn't care is not a smart way to look at it imo, sure gas prices are surging and anyone with a brain will wonder if another capable 4X4 would be abetter choice, outside of fanatics. Hell, my dad bought a new Suburban back in the 80's and every time he filled up he wrote down what kind of mileage he was getting. He [passed this habit to me. It's an effective way to constantly have your pulse on the overall health of your vehicle so that you might head off a problem before it becomes something worse. I'm just not used to it yet is all, but I don't blink when it costs me $60-$70 to fill up. You know why? I had a 40MPG Nssan Sentra before this Jeep I hated it even though I never had a single problem, ever. I just wanted to get another trail capable gas hog before the world decided we weren't allowed to buy them anymore. My last truck was a 1992 fully loaded F150 that did pretty well offroad and I typically got 11MPG and that was back when gas was .99/gal |

My 2007 3.7 is stock and on my trip from Fairbanks to Anchorage I averaged 23.58 mpg. Those are all highway miles. The cruise control was set between 66 and 68 for all of the flat areas and I babied it going through the mountains. My speedometer is off by a few mph so I was usually going about 65 or slightly under in real speed. |

According to my EVIC I get 15.5 MPG. I am completely stock, and I noticed about a ten percent increase with new plugs. I drive like an old man, with the occasional jack rabbit start, about 20 miles a week, on and off road, so there is a lot of short trips. I also drive about 200 highway miles on the weekend, occasionally loaded with bags of concrete. |

There is no easy way of getting a concrete truck down there, and getting a truck with a pump and all that pipe would be cost prohibitive. I guess that is why it never had a concrete foundation to begin with. |

15 mpg here with a Daystar spacer lift and Interco Trxus MTs on 15" cragars...3.73 gears. If someone is buying a jeep and they're concerned about mpgs, they should stay away from jeeps. |

The reason I asked was that I was considering getting one as a second vehicle. The actual mpg capability was more for curiosity than anything. I knew it was not going to rival an economy car. I actually bought a used 05 CRD last week and it potentially had issues so I took it back. It was going to replace my 03 Ram 2500 quad cab with a Cummins as my only vehicle. I really liked the Liberty, and the more I drove it the more I liked it, but the more I read about the CRDs the more I dont want/trust one as a daily driver. I was considering picking up a gas Liberty as a second vehicle but it would not be a good choice if gas continues to rise. Heck my Dodge gets 17-18 doing my 50/50 city highway weekly driving and 20-21 on the highway. Plus I ride my motorcycle a lot in the warmer weather. So if I do end up getting another vehicle it would be a cheap little beater/econo car for the winter. Now everywhere I look I see Libertys. They're taunting me lol. |
