I'll be replacing my battery later this year also. I was already considering an Optima. What is the difference between the yellow and the red?

The yellowtop is a deep cycle battery. Is is designed for applications that require a good deal of power drain and recharging, such as winching, stereos, etc. The redtop is designed to provide maximum cranking power for startup, for turning over diesels or large engines. Either one would be a good choice for the KJ.

It will be a Red top for me when that time comes around.... But I don't have a winch or a big giant stereo in my Liberty. A great feature about the Optima batteries is that they never die. Run them to 0 volts and just recharge, good as new. :D Not to mention you can mount them upside down if you are so inclined.

I wish I would of gotten the yellow top. my dad bought this battery for our 94 grand and I took it since that thing doesnt get driven much, I put my old battery in it. hehe.

I ran it down for the first time the other day. I was washing cars and ran my stereo for 2 days without starting the jeep and it finally went dead. I good charge and it was fine.

Optima all the way!!!!

I have 2 hellas on my front bumper and the 65watt fog lights, my red does fine. If you plan on using the lights when the jeep is off then go for the yellow. Other wise when the jeep is running the red would be fine.

Go with the red top unless you plan on using the lights alot with the vehicle off. If you are going to be running any kind of electrical equipment for any length of time you need to make sure you alternator can keep up. Relying on the battery to provide the extra juice for short period is okay (like winching), but for extended periods of time is just asking for trouble.

Plus the red top is 60 dollars less and has a 3 year replacement/ 3 year prorated warranty vs the 1 year replacement/ 1 year prorated warranty for the yellow top.

I had to cut my battery tray to have it fit. My advice is to cut the try on the battery side so that if it does shift (It better not since its THAT heavy) it will slide into the body reather than twards the engine. A dremel and 10-15 minutes will have it fitting like a glove.

I've been running Optima's Red Top for atleast a year and a half now, and have no problems with it what so ever. Even starting in sub-zero temps.

I picked up my Red Top for Pep boys for $109. I got the group 75 and it fit perfect. I used to sell them when I had my shop, great battery.
