I'm sure most people could care less, but I have an issue that I find odd. Drive an 06 KJ standard work vehicle, and have to come home and grab one of the vehicles that we own with a baby seat in it to go pick up my daughter. So I pull into the driveway in the 06 KJ listening to AM radio, reception is fine (as far as AM radio goes). Jump into the wifes 04 auto KJ, go to that same station and nada???? I find it strange. The FM stations come in fine.

Is there something different between the two vehicles? Radios seem the same....other than the 04 when you turn the radio off the button goes in like an inch or so, unlike the 06. Also, when I tune to the station, I think I'm hearing noise from maybe the alternator or something?? No good ground on the alternator?? 190k on the 04, 95k on the 06.

thanx for any insight!!

Sadly, radio manufacturers put very little effort into AM anymore. I have had very similar problems in cars of all types. Can you get any AM reception? the AM module could just be bad. It happens.

Make sure your antenna mount is tight, especially the ground at the base. Install noise suppression caps and coils on the alternator (does radio shack even still sell those? they did in the '90s) and make sure all connections are tight.

Good luck!
(FYI, my day job includes keeping an AM station transmitter working!) :D
