So last night I'm on my way home from my friends house and I'm exiting the highway and the exit meets up with a service road. Anyways I the guy I hit tried to cut from the service road onto the highway and came across into my lane and hit him while i was skidding at 45 mph. (it was raining and I don't have anti-lock brakes) The only positive thing is thats its not my fault. So until there insurance company sorts everything out i won't have my KJ. I'm very dissappointed, I've always kept my KJ clean and I even park at the end of every parking lot so i won't have door dings. The front end is totally smashed and only one of my kc fogs are broken. (probably 4 to 5 thousand in damage) Anyways thank God for airbags.

Glad everyone is ok.

Did the car you hit have more damage? Usually the kj holds up pretty good in accidents.

Just b/c you do not have abs doesnt mean you could of missed him if you did. When you loose traction is over no matter what. If you had esp and abs, you might could of gotten around him.

Glad everyone is Ok. Jeepers love carnage shots, so got any pics? Hope your KJ can be rebuilt better than ever after the insurance sorts it out.

When you get the insurance estimate, be sure to get your own... They can not force you to take it to their shop, you can have the work done at any shop you want. Also, I bet with the cost of new mopar parts, you sould try to get the Rock Lizard or ARB front bumper put on!

Anti Lock Brackes take longer to stop, unless you lock up your brakes without ABS. If you didn't lock up, it's probably a good thing you didn't have ABS. I don't have it, and I prefer it that way.

I'll second Ted's (USAFCOP) suggestions. Before you get any work done make sure to tell the shop how much you care about your vehicle's appearance and ask to see the paint shop and some examples of their work.

I learned this the hard way. When my Jeep had bad hail damage I took it to the shop (Gunn Collision Center, North East San Antonio) that my insurance company (USAA) recommended and they did an absolutely horrible job with the paint. Overspray everywhere, orangepeel, etc.

I am glad everyone is ok as well. I know they hold up well in a wreck, My first one was totalled. I was stopped in traffic and an old lady looking at garage sales in her minivan slammed into me doing 50. She pushed me into oncoming traffic. I hit a civic head on coming at me about 45, then I spun into the car that was in front of me. Once it stopped moving I got right out. It was only 45 days old, glad State Farm totalled it out. That is why I went right back to the dealer for another

Thanks for all the helpful ideas in avoiding bad body shops and maybe i could get an ARB bumber, but for now i just want my kj back to normal. Over Thanksgiving break my friend's girlfriend backed into my car and the body shop i took it to did a great job. So i'll probably take it there to get it fixed. As some of you said the kj does hold up well in wrecks. The plastic pieces were all over the place but the metal held up well. I took some pictures today at the impound lot and i'll see if i can figure out how to post them.

Sorry I did not mean to make them that big :? I don't know how to resize them that was the first time I've posted pictures. Sorry

Grab the freeware program "Irfanview". Available lots of places online. It's really simple and allows for fast resizing or renaming. Just do a google for it.

Oh and I hate to say it but that looks like more than 4-5K in damage. I scraped both front doors and minor paint on pass doors both sides. Minor body work just on both front doors and some paint on one passenger door ran me over 2K - No sheet metal replacement at all.

I rear-ended an Xterra back in sept 2004. I had a bent hood, 1 bent fender and a leaky radiator. They replaced all of that and the bumper cover cause it was cracked too. With the paint (they even re-painted the two front doors to blend in better) and replacing the badges and my pinstripe, the total repair cost was just a little over $7k. Yours looks a lot worse than mine did.

sucks ugh the pain. glad you were able to walk away. even with esp i'd sooner hit from the front than risk a rollover at that speed. head on collision a different story.

pics are OK to me, i'd rather be able to see unlike the cardomain postage stamp images.

i'd say it's pretty close to a write-off. sucks man.

Thats no write off. Dont scare the guy, its brand new! The insurance company is out to make money, they will fix that before they total it.

My brothers cherokee got into a similar wreck as that one, he didnt need a new hood though. I would say 5-6k.

PS: I like the k&n sticker!

Get yourself a real front bumper now. Get a price difference for replacing the stock bumper and getting a Rock Lizard, Trail Ready, or ARB front bumper.

There are two steps to getting the CarDomain photos to work. First you load them into your edit page. If you use them from there, they will be postage stamp sized. But if you then load them into your car page (and hit "Save and view"-- you can edit them out later), you can transfer them from there, and they will be bigger. Still, the CarDomain logo will appear on the photos. Depends whatcha like. James.

I looks similar to my crash but on the other side. about 7500.00 to fix. The suspension components and body parts add up.
