So I acquired a "free" 2002 KJ sport about a week ago. P0302 is the code, misfire cylinder 2. Best I can tell is the intake seat dropped causing the misfire and probably effing the head for further use. I don't have the head off yet, just the valve spring and it makes a metallic, odd clanky sound when spun. The cheapest route would be to replace the head with a reman, but the rest of the motor has 135k on it. I can get a reman. motor for a couple thousand bucks, but those are of questionable quality. Soooo, I was wondering is it is at all possible to swap in a 3.7 from a later model KJ/KK? I've seen low mile examples for under $2k and thought that would be a good way to go. Any ideas? Thanks -Chris |

Same thing happened to mine a while back, however it did not damage the head. It cost about $400 to fix, but I've been good to go for 60,000 miles since then. The mechanic said it was a stroke of luck that no more damage was done, so hopefully you have the same luck. |

It's gonna matter how much the engine has been tried to run. With ours, it wasn't much and the head was able to be repaired. If it has been tried a bit, you could also be looking at piston/rod replacement and sleeving that cylinder. |

my lib is currently having both heads replaced as well as the valve system due to misfires starting in cylider 3 and then getting worse from there. $3k is the cost.. |

My '02 is on it's third engine..... Factory one broke a valve spring and dropped a valve spring at 83K. Replacement engine didn't have 5K on it before it dropped a valve seat casuing engine number three to be installed. luckily I bought an aftermarket warranty from the stealership when I picked up the jeep so it hasn't hit me as hard as some of the rest of the folks who have had the misfortune to have this happen. |
