I was just wondering, since modern Jeeps come standard with ABS, is there any way to safely disable it? I have driven vehicles with ABS in the past and I absolutely despise it! I think it's one of the worst "solutions" to bad driving ever conceived. That is the very first "mod" I would do to my Jeep. Thank you for your replies!

Pull the ABS fuse, will have the light on all the time in the cluster. Also you must inform your insurance company as they will give you a discount automatically via the VIN that states it has ABS.If you get caught it's fraud and your SOL.

I have 3 KJ's here, and just got rid of another one. two are limited, two are renegade. none have ABS.

ABS is the worst thing to ever happen. I have had ABS in one car...a 92 crown vic. twice it almost killed me....snowy conditions, I slowed down to 2mph before I ever hit the brakes by manually down shifting starting 1 mile before the stop sign on a cross road of a busy 2 lane highway. It would not stop...kept surging. I would have been better off with a straight lock up of the brakes. It did the same thing on a similar situation.

I built a saturn wagon up for my mom....it has ABS. Just put a new power steering pump in it last week...when driving it from her house to our shop, in snowy conditions, with ice base on gravel, at under 5mph, I went to slow down. immediate surging. I flipped the e-brake and narrowly missed clipping the KJ I finished last week because that locked up the tires. You cannot steer when the brakes are surging, you can not stop, and now that you've lost traction because they are surging, you can not go, either.

garbage. Unless it's high end and works...but then it's more to break, and when it breaks, it's junk. easier without.

It doesn't really read that way. It reads complete flip flopped and backwards the way you typed it.

Either way, disabling the ABS on your vehicle and getting in a wreck will only do one thing, if you're up front about it....it will limit the liability of the insurance company to pay for the accident. The accident investigators will look at your car, determine if the fuse was removed, and notate that.

Now, having failed abs will not result in any negative effects from the car insurance company, but you really should fix things when their broke, or do this right and remove them completely.

I suppose I could always put a blown fuse in the box, then sue Jeep if I get into an accident :-)r Just kidding - I abhor frivolous lawsuits. I also abhor ABS, though. I knew the light would be on in the cluster all the time...unless I took the dash off and disabled the light, then blamed it on the blown fuse and sue Jeep if... :jester:

Could but wouldn't win. Idiot light on that means problem with something owner/drivers responsibility to fix or not drive until repaired.
Side note I'm driving minus TPMS, is it noted on insurance like ABS? I won't sue if I get a flat;).

I've heard horror stories about that TPMS too, that might be the next mod...I don't know who did it, but they removed the stems and stuck them in a PVC tube then pressurized the tube and kept it in the Jeep under the seat so the sensors wouldn't chime. Kudos to them, cuz I just might do that. I hate all the bells and whistles and electronic gizmos and doo-dads! I wish the gub'ment would just keep their darn hands off my Jeep!
