Post subject:  High Lift Time
Ok so I guess it's time for a high lift jack. I went to rotate my tires last night and figured out really quick that my jack just wasn't high enough. And if I'm not in my drive way....it would be much easier to lift without having to get under the axels.....So a high jack it is....I'm guessing I lift from my stock rock rails??? And I was wondering...I saw a renny with a roof basket that they made to fit inside the stock plastic roof rack. Do those baskets come with mounts for the high lift jack? Does the high lift jack come with mounts? Whats a great high lift thats not to much mula $$$$$? Same for the roof rack. I ahve looked around the previous threads...but I thought this would be a better way of getting my specific info. Thanks, Late

I dont think I would lift my KJ by the Factory Rock Rails...maybe if I had boulderbars I would, but I dont trust those factory Rails for something that dangerous.

I have been going through the same thought process. I'm going to get a hi-lift for off-roading. But they're just not safe as a driveway lift. I just today made the decision to bite the financial bullet and get a good bottle jack for now. It's just so much safer. The high-lift will come, but the bottle jack is what I need now.

I don't know that this helps you any. Just thought I'd let you know that someone else was out here dealing with the same problem.

I appreciate it DOG....but I'm confused and I don't want to change my own topic but........... Are high lift jacks used for offroad? To lift the jeep out of a hole and push it off? Are all of you lifted guys lifting from the axels?

Yep, HiLifts are extremely handy offroad.

Click here for the HiLift manual

Check page 12 for the main reason I want the HiLift offroad. "You may use this Jack as a winch or clamp." It's a whole lot cheaper than a winch.

There is also a tire strap available from HiLift that hooks through the rim and around the axle. Might make driveway lifting a bit safer, but I'm not sure. Need to do more research on this one.

I carry a Hi-Lift, the accessories, and an adaptor (see the Fabrication section) to use since I don't have rock rails. However, they are all stowed when I rotate my tires in the driveway. I use my bottle jack and a piece of 4x6 wood as a base for the jack. Super simple and quick. Plus the wood makes a good wheel chock or seat or even firewood...

If you use the Hi-lift from the side on your driveway, I almost guarantee you'll lift both wheels on that side by the time you overcome the suspension droop. See below. Both wheels are off the ground in this pick. From this jack point the front wheel actually lifts off first...

i use a floor jack.. one of those smaller ones..i just store it in the cargo area.. i used to have a huge one but its back at my dadss.. i always use piece of treated 4x6 and i have no problems.. i dont have a lift yet but my friend brpn#2 does and my jack lifted his front end enough to take tire off.. bottle jacks are cheaper.. i would like to get a hi-lift but cant afford it right now.. i will when i get a lift i guess.. or a bigger floor jack

Also, storage wise, the HiLift fits perfectly under the rear seat where mine sits all the time.

It's the 48 inch that fits under the back seat. I just saw a farm jack at Northern Supply for 30 bucks. I bought mine at a farm store for $35,, not a hilift, but a clone,, same thing. You can't really change a tire with the tire strap with hooks that fit through the rim. I fabricated an adapter that fits into frame holes and lifts on the rock rails,, works fine. Also, jacking with a hilift jack can be a dangerous endeavor :shock:
