Apparently this Jeep is used for jet ski rental business in florida, so it sees a lot of salt water. http://imgur.com/a/SZfkF |

Holy poop! That's insane! I've seen my fair share of nasty rotors/toasted calipers in my days, but that's crazy. Never seen springs that bad! I did see the spring from a Ford Escort wagon split in 2 from rust, but the majority of the spring still had that coating on it. That was one of those, "hey my car is making a clunking sound, can you look at it?" type of things. ![]() |

That was ready for the scrap yard the 1st time it hit salt water. This is why I don't understand when people bring brand new trucks through floods here. I guess they don't understand how fast salt water destroys things. |

Have seen springs like that in Northwest Ohio before Calipers/Rotors little worse for wear but if you don't clean things they'll rust up |

Honestly wouldn't have stayed if it wasn't for the boats and we're contemplating filling the boat with diesel and riding it out in the bay for the next "Sandy". I went down at 1am Monday morning of the storm and there was some flooding but I went through it since it didn't even make it halfway up the sidewalls. Then again at 5am and there was nothing. We got the call and had to go down around 8, and our friend offered to drive us down. He owns a brand new 4 door JK on 35s so there goes 1 nice Jeep lol. Then around 11ish maybe, our friend came down in his F-350. This thing is 100k truck. He's getting 500whp, god knows how much torque and is spinning 37s. I don't even know how much lift he has. Water was at the bottom of the axles, so there went another nice truck. Shame too, my Uncle was thinking about buying it from the guy too, well not anymore lol. |

Quote: 2004 Jeep Liberty with 112,000 miles. The owner uses it to rent out jet skis on the beach here in Florida. One problem: He never washes off the salt when he is done. I've already replaced both rear lower control arms due to structural failure (second time caused the rear end to twist enough to yank the driveshaft out of the transfer case) Replaced both CV axles, all tierods, all ball joints, and re-ran the exhaust all due to rust damage. I had actually already done a brake job on this vehicle not even 5 months ago (including rotors turned) and strangely enough, although the pads pictured are worn down to past nothing, the pads on the other side were still excellent. There was also a time where I had to replace the water pump because bearing peices were actually coming out of the front of the shaft bore. ![]() |
