Hey all, wondering what all you have been towing and how your rig has handled it? Turbogokart and i have a couple of "wannabe" race cars and MAY break down here or there. Instead of wasting my triple a miles I'd love to feel confident that my kj will be able to do the job! Of course adding the ext trans cooler, but anything else?

I have towed since day one, in Europe and here in the USA. I just recently towed from Washington DC to El Paso Tx and stopped on the scales with a CAT weigh in at 10280lbs GVW. I averaged 16-19 mpg depending on terrain. I have towed a 1100kg race car all over Germany without an issue.

Ours are gas though. I'd think that only makes a difference on how you pull the weight, not how much you can pull.

Well I have towed between 300lbs to 7800lbs, most of that has been a racecar to and from the track. Parts, tires, tools, luggage, oils, fuels, lights, etc.

I towed from DC to EP with speeds from 60mph to 85mph, heavy rain and sun, averaging 650 per day, driving solo.

Now yours being a gaser, your probably limited to 5000TC WITH THE TOW PACKAGE. If yo do not have the TP, then I believe it is limited to 3500lbs.

I currently have 133,000 miles on my KJ and I special ordered it new in Germany.

I know in Europe the gasser is not rated the same as the diesel in towing, Gasser is 5000lbs and the CRD is 7700lbs.

If you have the auto trans it's 3500lbs without HD cooling and 5000lbs with HD cooling for both the 3.7 and CRD by US laws.Manual trans is 3500lbs regardless as the clutch is to small for anymore.

I towed a 16ft steel flatbed with my XJ on it a few times. I think if I had regeared when I lifted my Liberty and put the bigger tires on, it woulda been ok. As it is it kept wanting to downshift.

I routinely pull my Triton 12' Enclosed Double Snowmobile trailer with 2 sleds each winter. The whole setup with fueled sleds, gear and misc stuff is right around 2800 pounds. It tows fine just realize you're not driving a F350 Diesel Dually and let the Jeep do the work and you will be ok

Biggest concern is the relatively short wheelbase of the KJ. In the winter, you need to be alert and don't do anything stupid. Otherwise you will be in trouble real quick.
