Hello ya'll. I have an 05 KJ 3.7. I have a bad CV I think. I've been told I need to replace it, and I'm not really sure how to do it. I've done several things on my Jeep including installing the lift and the AC compressor, but this is a new one on any of the 3 Jeeps I've had. Anyone know how to do this job and care to shed some light, it would be greatly appreciated. |

With all the OE replacement parts being so cheap, it's almost not even cost effective anymore to only replace the CV joint, especially when the price of the entire axle is not much more than the price of the CV joint, and the axle is much easier/quicker to replace than the CV joint. |

Wait, I think I read that wrong; you just said CV, not CV joint. So your whole axle needs to be replaced? |

For the CV go to NAPA and get a rebuilt one, forget the Autozones etc . If its the right side and you have quite a few miles then I'd also grab an intermediate shaft as well. To replace fairly easy , pull the spindle , of course brakes , tie rod ends etc have to come off and pull the old one out and replace . Pretty much common sense type things as you look. Since you have done a lift you have pretty much seen everything that has to be removed |

Just to be honest, I'm not sure the full extent of the problem. I know I've got a popping sound and the boot is torn and the grease is our on the lower part of the joint. So I don't know what that will involve . |

Will involve replacing the CV, easiest / quickest way Easy to do, If boot is torn dirt / water is getting into the bearings so wearing it out quicker right side CV slides into a intermediate shaft, where the two meet their are splines which rust and wear. So most times its a good idea to swap both out while you are in there. |

It's on left side, so you're saying when I do one I should do the other as well? I just spoke with a friend of mine who is a professional. We are going to do the swap one night early next week. Going on a long offroad trip next weekend, mostly gravel roads and such. |

Got down into it and you guys are right. It's easier to just do the whole axle while I'm there. My Steering rack bushings are shot too, so I'm going to try and tackle that at the same time. |
