Posted this on jeepkj also...

Just got done replacing the right rear caliper and ran into a problem. I upgraded to Napa metal piston calipers just to find out that the brake pads no longer clip in the piston. Anyone else have this problem? I managed to bend the tabs out so the brake pad will stay somewhat centered, so I'm hoping it will hold up for the long term.

Anyone see a problem?

Here are the clips on the brake pad I am talking about:

Notice the inner diameter difference of the pistons? Just thought I'd let everyone know since I couldn't find anyone having this problem.

If anyone knows what size brake pad would clip in the metal piston, I would appreciate it.

I'd go back and double check with them , when they rebuild them they may have had the wrong piston. ( right size for the bore but wrong piston for the KJ s)

I did check with them. They were as baffled as I was. Everything is correct, it even has the same caliper picture posted online. Either way it appears to be working fine after modifying the clip with no noises.

Or maybe there is a spacer that they forgot to glue in.

In any event, you don't need to worry about the spring; it's basically just there to hold everything together while you are sliding the assembly over the rotor. Those little springs are in no way strong enough to keep the pads centered while driving, that is what the caliper casting and bolts do.

That's what I figured. As long as it works, I'm not going to worry about it. Haven't heard any funny noises or anything from it. 8)
