I think mine is going bad on the 04, with 117K..as far as I know its probably factory. Its got a nice belt squeak that I think is coming from that general area. Is there a way to tell for sure its that? There also sounds like the power steering pulley is squeaking too.. :banghead:

I'm not sure if there's a definite way to tell if the serpentine belt tensioner is bad, but I've done some light reading on it before, and if I remember correctly, it's a very mild, rather cheap repair/part.

What condition is the belt in?

Slip the serp belt off and then actuate the tensioner with a long socket wrench or breaker bar throughout its range. The movement should be smooth. If it won't move through that range when unloaded, it might not be working well while under tension either. While the belt is off, check for play and free rotation on all the pullies. Binding in one can exhibit in jumping of the tensioner slipping, etc.

x2 on "what's the condition/age of the belt".

If its factory and that many miles its due for a complete unit
Make sure to replace the belt along with the new tensioner
I replace mine on a regular basis just because they do wear and get weaker
and then saving the old one for a back up

Yeah from what I have read I think I'm just gonna replace it, Is it just that one bolt in the center between the two pulleys and it comes off?

The belt is pretty new, I replaced it awhile ago when I did the water pump..

I'm gonna be replacing the whole tensioner unit, but I think I have others making noise. Would the P/S pulley go bad? Or alternator pulley? What about the A/C compressor?
