Sorry if I come across very strong about this. This is a very touchy subject. Seems I have to deal with this one every month... because we have a few guys that request to add the LOST logo on some really rude and crude things and every time we say no... I get slammed with naste email telling me I have no rights to not let this happen. This happen ever month.

There are a few guys that spend way too much time doing this forum and club stuff and trying to keep this in a positive manner...but you would not believe the nasty emails I get ALL the time about copyrights, trademark, club rules and things like that.

We just went through a huge blast of foul words on he old site about who can and can not use the LOST logo... Did we really have the copyrights. Matter of fact one guy was spending time trying to be sure we had done it and emailing me daily on his progress.

Copyrights are copyrights...No need to even go into it. If anyone needs to do any research...use the internet and get it done. Again...sorry sore subject. No pointed at one person... You were just in shotgun range.

Whatever tokens you end up with, I have some change burning a hole in my pocket for some. Good job on a cool item to promote the Site and L.O.S.T.

OK guys, once again. I asked permission to use the LOST logo. I am not doing this to make a profit. If u knew the amt of paperwork and tracking that goes into something like this, let alone the cell phone calls back and forth to the vendor, the trips to the post office, the tracking when stuff doesn't show up, the requests for various colors, changes, etc, etc, etc. (I've done this before!) You would see what I mean.

I am doing this because I believe in this site, I recognize the hard work that goes into it and I feel that by doing this I can personally aid in bringing in new members which in turm will aid ME by making this a better site with more info available to ME (and people like me  ).

Please don't turn this into a debate about copyrights, usage, etc. I will deal with Chrysler if they have a problem with my using the logo. UNTIL and IF that happens please limit the postings in this thread to what the thread is about. That is, My darn nice tokens and who wants em!!! :D

If I do a second order (and it looks like I will), I'll probably drop the 4X4 wording so as not to alienate the 4x2 guys which wasn't my intention. So, if any of u guys want any tokens as well, let me know.

Plus, being a little creative, you could use them in contests.

I took trademarks in lawschool. Under federal law trademark owner's have no choice but to police their mark because they will lose their trademark rights if they don't.

If you use D/C's trademark you will get a cease and desist letter from their attorney's followed by a lawsuit in federal court if you continue to use their mark. It is a registered mark so statutory damages are available which can be quite expensive.

You might be able to use the mark with D/C's permission with a disclaimer stating that ""Trail Rated" is a registered trademark of D/C".

I would definately ask for permission prior to using the mark. The simplest and cheapest solution, however, is to find another design.

uh oh - a legal eagle in da house!

I know you said you'd take the heat Chris - but maybe it wouldn't hurt to shoot an email out to D/C. Wouldn't it be sweet to have the permission to use it? AND maybe it would open up the door to a whole new relationship with them and they'd actually recognize us and maybe work with us on things, perhaps club discount on EOM stuff!

I guess it's hammer over the head time.

But, Since this seems to keep popping up, Here is a copy of the initial email I sent to Chrysler a while back:

Quote:
I am a Liberty owner and belong to a Liberty Owner's Group (see our website at www.LOSTKJS.com). We are a group of owners interested in promoting the Liberty name and the Jeep Brand and regularly meet for trail rides, modifications, etc.
We are having a small quantity of promotional tokens made up to give out at our trail rides and meetings. This would strictly be for our group use, produced in a small quantity and would not be sold for any profit.

We would like to put the "Trail Rated" logo on one side. How can we get permission to do this?

There have been several emails back and forth since then. As I said, let me worry about this stuff.

FWIW, Jeep Knows All about L.O.S.T. and they frequently observe this forum. Just another reason we try so hard to keep things positive around here. Engineers at Camp Jeep Ca. told us they knew all that we were up to and they discussed our posts on a regular basis. How bout dem apples?

I like the "A" back.

Great job on the tokens Cacher. I'll most likely order some, as there are a few in the parking lot next door to where I work. I actually just noticed a brand new '05 Rennie over there. They're actually starting to park next to each other too. Maybe I can take some of the tokens over and show them the Lost way 8)

Good to hear you've been talking with them. We're all just trying to watch out for each other! :) Keep up the good work and let us know when those awesome tokens show up!

I have a stack of MALOST flyers I keep in the libby, for when I meet another kj owner. I was giving one to a liberty owner the other day,, and he tells me that his wife just bought a new renegade. When I asked if he had heard of LOST before,, he tells me,, oh yea,, we got LOST info from jeep with all the paper work you get with a new vehicle

Interesting that we are being promoted by jeep

get muddy
