| Post subject: | Urgent Help requireded - Rear Diff CRD 2003 |
Good Morning, I need some urgent help & advise here. Currently I have had my KJ stuck at the Jeep dealer for nearly two months due to the rear diff going. Initially they thought it was the bearings that had gone, but when opening it up proparly they found the hole diff had gone and needed replacing. Here is the problem: my KJ CRD is a 2003 model, built 10/2002, and they can't find the parts!!! Jeep Europe doesn't stock the parts anymore and throught the Jeep network looks like they aren't any left to be found. My KJ has a life time warranty from the dealer, so what breaks they fix and pay for, but given the situation looks like I am having to help them out finding parts or a solution. At this stage they are emailing me over the list of part they can't find. So here are my options: 1) Keep it all Mopar / Jeep keep looking 2) Change the diff to: ARB 3) Changer the diff to DTT If I go for option 2 & 3, assuming I can find them over here, what would I need need also or would it be a straight swap, old diff new diff in or do I need old parts for the diff that is to be assumed now as compleately defunct and no good. Please help as I would like to get my KJ back asap. Thank you Fil. |

Do you mean the carrier is bad? If the whole diff is bad just replacing the carrier will not help. But if it just needs a carrier you can find any pretty easy, stock or aftermarket. The ARB or DTT are easily had even in the UK. Here is a dealer for ARB in the UK.................. http://www.arbil4x4.co.uk/Catalogue/Search One for Detriot stuff in the UK.................. http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-GRID012627 |

From what I have been told, looks like only the caseing is good!! So I assume the carrier is gone to, and that is the part they are struggling to find as the 2005+ is different than the 2002/5 model. If the carrier is gone and I can't find the part, would that mean I can't fit a any other diff? I am a bit lost here, between the carried and the diff. I assume the carrier is what hold it in place in the diff housing and then there is the diff that is separate, correct? If that is the case can I still find from the US given the correct Part N. & Vin numbers the correct Carrier to attache the Diff to the housing? Fil. |

What rear diff do you have? My 2002 CRD has the 4.10 Trac Loc. Just asking so you know you are looking for the correct spares....the rear axle should have sticker on it stating what diff you have fitted. Also, maybe the Jeep Dealership here in SA could ship you parts but you can bet that would be expensive as I find them extremely expensive here. |

Bill, I have a True Track Diff on my CRD 2.5, problem is the Jeep dealer can't get the parts, so I am looking outside the Network to Help them out, that is the part number they quoted. It's turning out to be a bit of a nightmare & some incompetences on behalf of the Parts Department due to Mopar having changed Part numbers etc. If they have the correct part I will send the infor over to them to sort it out as it's there Bill (Jeep has lifetime warranty). Well quick up date, looks like after a bit of shouting at the parts department at my Jeep dealer yesterday, they have found all the parts needed....what a miracle!!! Next will be how long it's going to take to have all the part arrive and fitted.... When I was there I quickly had a look at the cost of all the parts.... the botton line was reading £3300.00 (US $5000)... surely that can't be right... they told me it was so as they needed to order each aprt individually... Thank you all for your time.... |

If you have a 8.25 they can get a complete diff imported from the USA supply system for between $1200-$2000 at MSRP but maybe 2/3 that cost for dealer to dealer transfer.Heck they can use the salvage yard system in your country to source one from a wrecked vehicle.Using a salvaged diff is a option for warranty repairs. |

Yes, you are both more than correct, I even found one new one fully assembled for £ 350 ($500) and showed it to them. It's lunacy at the top level but they told me they didn't have a choice due to the warranty on the Jeep. I am half tempted to go and buy the parts and store them for the future. Thank you for your help and I will keep you posted. |

Yes, they will cover the cost, but the problem is with finding the parts as some of the Item are no longer available via Jeep Network or the Item Number has changed and they can't track it back or shows as not available anymore, that is why to date it's taken 2 months just to source the parts!!!!!!!!!. the only reason I am carrying on it that the cost is covered by the warranty, otherwise by now it would have been done and I would have my KJ back. |
