My driver's side steering gear boot is torn. Nothing is leaking, but concerned about debris getting in there. Can I just replace the boot?

Thanks!

I don't see why not :D

You would have to remove the tie rod end and then the clamps on each end of the boot. It's reasonably dry under the boot so it's not likely to be messy.

Of course there is also the possibility that you would want an alignment after, unless your are exact in replacing the tie rod end.

I tore the boot on one side of mine and I looked EVERYWHERE for that boot and couldn't find it. There are universal/generic boots around but I didn't trust them.

My steering rack went bad not long after so it didn't make any difference anyway. Hopefully you can find a boot that works.

Bob

Looks like it is leaking and I'll likely need a new steering rack :grim:

Did you change out the steering rack out yourself? If so any tips or pointers? I know mine is going bad but waiting funds to replace most of my front end components, bushings, balls joints, new front lift, etc.
