After an accident last month, my KJ is in the shop for some non-major, but seriously time-consuming body repairs. Here's what it looked like after the collision:

Not so bad. Unfortunately lots of other fun stuff was made apparent when they took off the cover:

What I'd love to know is what a few things are that I've never seen. First, what is this loop that sits under the driver's side headlamp:

AND, what is this leaking substance (bottom drivers side of the heat exchanger directly behind the front push fan on a CRD):

Hey Dan,
Sorry to hear about your jeep, glad every one is ok. I think that those are high pressure hose crimps. Just a guess AC lines, and freon.

The first pic is a loop in the high pressure power steering hose. The second is the trans cooler that is part of the a/c condenser.

Interesting. So...don't mess with the loop if i like my steering and I should probably diagnose the transmission fluid leak at the next change (assuming that's ATF on the cooler).

Hey Dan, glad to see the CRD is getting the attention it needs.

Yep, power steering hose in the first pic. And for the second...I'm not sure since you have the CRD but I believe that is a very slight leak in the trans cooler line. However, I wonder if it isn't some fluid from the heat exchanger...?

Watch those rainslicked on-ramps, eh?

I'll spray everything clean and keep an eye on the leak when it gets home. It's not the rain that gets ya, it's the dummy behind the wheel...

agreed on high pressure p/s line.

You shouldn't ignore the leak, though. That is driver's side, on a/c condenser, which includes the trans cooler @ the bottom.

There is NO other fluid that could possibly leak in that spot. That is the trans cooler line leaking @ connection, or a fracture in the condenser/cooler in that area. You have it that far apart, it should be fixed, now. you need to have the bumper cover and parts off in order to replace it, so you may as well just get it done now.

If it's tranny fluid it's either the connectors, a common leak point and fixable, or the cooler itself. If the latter you do not want to attempt a fix which involves a rather expensive AC condenser replacement. A much cheaper and easier fix is to bypass that OEM cooler by installing an aftermarket cooler just behind the grill on the driver side and routing the cooler lines to there. Several posts are on the forum as to how to.
