Just got this 12 foot RC Cargo trailer with a ramp, windows and an extra door for some cargo runs this spring and then conversion into a cargo/camper. Going to keep it simple. Really just a dry, warm place to sleep. No electric, no water cooking outside on the fire or the grill.

It was full of furniture this trip and the KK pulled it 60 to 70 mph down the freeway no problem.

Nice, you've read my mind. But I thought I'd use a 10' mostly because all the 12' I've seen were 2 axles. But I have a few pieces like to add- 3 burner and inverter. Beds/ sofas that fold flat. Ladder and rack. But I have no money.

That's pretty much the plan. Most of the money is the trailer. We can go a little bit at a time from here and most of what we want to add is either affordable or already in the tent camping gear.

That's a good lookin' trailer. We just sold our 7' X 14' tandem axle cargo trailer. While it was too heavy for the KJ, it served it's purpose for all the times that we towed it behind the Ram. When it wasn't moving us from state to state, it served as a storage container. We will be searching for a smaller cargo trailer similar to the one that you have. Did you custom order that?

Looks great
They work great for a camper/storage/haul whatever for sure.
I've slept in it several times using a Futon with small fridge/table cook outside and have room to sit inside when its raining to play cards even
I've had a 6X10 for since 1996 thats served me well
Side door and all

I live near Elkhart Indiana so factory pick up was cheap and easy so I did custom order.

I added:

second door on nose to be turned into an outside kitchen
windows for light and ventilation
rear leveling jacks for stability
no trim along the edges of the floor so we can stick down some vinyl tiles

Plans include:

shelves across nose to store all gear
outdoor accessible kitchen thru nose door
awning
ramp room to turn ramp into room adding 6x6 more space and lots of ventilation

we're sticking with freestanding furniture we use now tent camping to keep it flexible back and forth to cargo and in 6x12 and 6x18 configurations. All the gear will be packed in shelves across the noze and stay there year around freeing up garage space and having us ready to roll with almost no notice.

That's my spring/summer project now that I'm making my last major changes to my KK.

As you upgrade and modify, keep us posted. If possible, try to post a few pictures of the trailer as a camping unit. :CAMPING:

Did it come insulated ? I installed the blue foam in mine at first but removed it all after a couple of years, looking at something different now to better insulate it. I never installed floor tiles since it gets so much wear when moving etc and hauling garden tractors. I have a rug that just fits the whole area really well that I throw in when camping in it.
Have you installed any type of shore power yet. If not make sure just like a garage to install outlets all along both walls and esp. near the rear.

Which way you installing insulation. Is it next to exterior sheeting with ply over top?

We used a product called tiger foam, http://www.tigerfoam.ca/, and insulated the ice shack with it.

The good: used inside the plywood shell and left uncovered, hardens in 40 sec, 0.5 inch to 1 inch thick, keeps warm at 15C with a 10000 btu sunflower heater in -30ish weather. Its also fire resistant, a legit ice shack concern. Sticks like S*** on velcro, its like urthane glue.

The bad: Its canadian so getting that product might be difficult. It turns yellow when left exposed and is a witch to paint over due to the texture. Can be done with latex and HF spray gun, requires lots of thinning. The effective vapor barrier is now inside, hence why i asked about sheeting the inside?

Its also pricey. 400 bucks for 200 sq feet ish, its almost hardwood prices. Rigid foam under 1/4 (3/8) plywood sheeting in interior would be much more cost effective.

Just a few days ago I was reading about the different styles and brands of insulation/foam board. They were rated by their R value. I was surprised by how much they differed in quality and price. If you were to camp in the trailer during the winter, having an insulated floor makes a world of difference. Some of those cargo trailers do not have 3/4 plywood walls, instead they use luan wall lining. The reflective board also makes a difference when used as an interior board.

Insulation and electrical wiring are not part of the immediate plans. Just some pretty simple mostly summer camping. We can always ad more later.

I'll post updates once it gets warm and we can start the project for real.
