Post subject:  Towing Limit

Hi everyone.

I have a 2007 Jeep KJ, with the Six Speed Manual.
Here is my situation;

An automatic KJ is rated at 5,000 lbs towing capacity.
My manual transmission is rated at 3,500 lbs towing capacity.
Obviously the weak link is my transmission & Axle gears? (3.55)

I would like to tow about 4,300 lbs.
What can I expect? Is it totally absurd to even attempt to do so?
I am not a towing guru. I'm reaching out to my favorite LOST people.

Any input would be great. Thanks!

Stick to 3500lbs or risk frying the clutch. No HD cooling and that means your limited even further,2500lbs I believe.

Can't brag about the stick now huh? lol If all you risk is the clutch...well you don't need to start, stop or shift :jester:

Its not the starting, stopping or shifting that's going to eat the clutch up. Its the long pulls in the higher gears that will put excessive torque load on the clutch. The 6speed itself with close ratio gearing is good for towing, its the weak link, the clutch that will cause issues.
