Does anyone else notice this? It's pretty loud when the motor is cold but I can still notice it after it warms up. I only have 14k miles on it and it's pretty much done it after about 2 or 3 weeks I got it

It runs fine at highway speeds but has less power than the 04 I had. I always thought that it was because the 04' was 2wd it got more power to the rear wheels but i don't know... it sure feels like i'm loseing alot of lowend torque the more I drive it. (getting worse over time)

I need to take it to the dealer I think.

i also have a 2005 renegade and i use amsoil :D and mopar filter
every 5 thousand miles and i have 15,000 miles now and mine has concerned me since we bought it
it sounds like it very similar sounds as yours, i asked the dealer about this last weekend and he told me that its because we only drive it every couple of weeks, we only drive this for long trips to the beach or somewhere fun
we maybe sometimes dont even start it for two weeks .

sounds pretty loud when its less than 55 degrees outside
i know this dont help but mine sounds the same also

I have a 05 limited. I do not have any knocking at any time cold or hot. I have 4500 miles on the O.D. Dealer does oil changes. The dealer gives a lifetime warranty on the engine , transmission, and running gear if you purchase your vehicle from them and let them service the vehicle.

Mine rattles a bit on start up if it sits overnight. This just started after the last oil change, all of which were peormed by the dealer ( every 3,000 miles- first 15 were "free" with purchase-like it isn't included somewhere in what I paid....LOL) . I appears to be a mopar filter, but the sound is typical of what happens when the oil "drains back" thru through the filter. I called the dealer and got it on record, but theyswear it is normal. If it continues after the next oil change i will investigate further.

Mine seems to do this sometimes. There was a thread awhile back and everyone said it was normal, so IDK.

Mine is the same way... The rolling clink/haggle or bearing type noise that gets quicker when accel. I hear it and it sounds bad to me. Like the cam is getting some damage. I have not gotten a warning or error message yet. Side Notes: I even had some very bad performance drop over a month and 1/2 period and then reset the computer (- battery cable off for 1 hour). I noticed that I was getting about 12 mpg. The reset seemed to provide an 80% improvement. I then noticed on that day that I had a lot of soot at the exhaust pipe. Seems that it has been running a bit rich. I am set for a visit to the Dealer this week (or whenever my wife goes into labor).

I did put it in the Dealership's shop about 2 months ago (before the computer reset) for this sound at cold startup. They said that nothing is wrong. Funny, it ran better for the remainder of the tank of gas. I think they added and boost.

Has anyone noticed a drop in MPG or excessive soot at the tailpipe?

Haha, what in the world does the wife going into labor have to do with going to the dealer? Soot is normal in the tail pipe, dont know what you mean by excessive.

I have no clue why the MPG would drop of like that? Switch from winter to summer maybe?

I think I have fixed my power loss. but it still makes noise at start up.

I over filled the oil on last change.... Also the PCV valve and line going to the intake had a excessive amount of oil in it.... (oil ran out when I pulled the line off.)

I also reset the computer.

Well, I don't have the Free Loaner Car in my warrenty. So, I am trying to get this done when I really don't need my Liberty for a while.

I did drive the liberty last summer and the MPG was higher until this Jan-Feb.

PitViper, Did the over-filling cause the excessive oil in your PCV/line? Or, was this a condition before the over-fill? Did the over-filling help your power loss?

Chris

I think the oil in the line was from the over fill... I think that caused the power loss.

I cleaned the valve and line and It runs much better on the highway now.

Does this look excessive? I noticed this condition at about 5000 miles. All of the other KJs I've seen around town do not have this sooty-ness.
