Do they make one of these for the KJ? If so has anyone got one installed? Is it a direct bolt in replacement?

200 amps is a heck of alot. I would never see the need for 200amps in the jeep. The renny comes with a 160amp alt and maybe I would see a use for that.

Thats darn good for powering inverters for tools and such. I thought everyone had an electric chain saw in their rig for cutting trails??? It will out cut the gas model without the mess.

I paid $0.99 for my 160 amp alternator off of eBay. The part number ends in AA (160) instead of AC (136). The CRD alternators end in AJ. Most of the time the guys selling them don't realize they're different. Side by side they look almost the same, the 160 amp is just a hair smaller, but you can see more coils inside of it, and it's slightly heavier.

Remember stock alternators do not put out as much noise as the mean green alternator does. I cant prove this but in car stereos the aftermarket alternators that are high amperage cause some alternator whine in your speakers. This is fixed with special parts though.

Don't forget to upgrade your cables also.. I had a friend of mine upgrade his alternator to find out in right after he hooked everything up to find his cables had melted.. It wasn't pretty.. He ended up using some heavy welding cables.. He hasn't had a problem since...

What is the rating on the CRD alternator? Do you know if the Mean Green for the gas KJ will mount right up to the CRD?

I know the 03-04 Renegades came with the 160-amp alternator, because of the light bar. I don't think the 05-06's do, because the light bar was optional on the Renegades. The other vehicles with the 3.7L use the same alternator, but none had the option of the 160 amp alternator.

I'm not sure the rating on the CRD's alternator. Or the alternator from the 2.4L models.

I swapped to a 160 in my sport when I added the light bar and stereo gear. It works great. I was thinking of a higher output aftermarket unit, but since I compete in car audio sound quality I was worried about alternator noise coming through the system.
