Post subject:  Best Jacking Point?
What the best jacking point to lift the front end? I have one 2 ton floor jack and two 3 ton jack stand, is that strong enough? I am going to change my front and rear diff oils. The front looks harder because the skid plate is in the way. Sprayed some wd40 on the rear axle bolts so it should be easy to remove. I got 2 qts. 75w90 for the rear and 2 qts. 80w90 for the front. Is that okay? There wasn't any 75w140 available.

I use the cross member where the tranny and engine skid meet. Best point to lift if you are putting jack stands under it. Put the jack stands where the stock jack goes.

For some reason I remember someone saying the front requires 75w-140 syn, dont know if thats correct or not. Your ok on the rear.

The skid needs to come off to change that front oil, 4 bolts hold it on.

Yes, the front does require 75W140 syn., i didn't even jack up the KJ to change the diff oil, if you do feel you have to, jack the KJ up by the jack points that they describe in the owners manual, and then place the jack stands in roughly the same area.

X2 on the SYN I did not jack up my 02 but it is lifted,, could get my big stomach under it OK
I used Blue rtv but I see that they make a gasket .What is better if you don't have a gasket. Or should you by a gasket.

I bought a gasket for the rear for the first time and its awsome. I got it from randys ring and pinion and boy does it make it ALOT easier! All it is, is a piece of paper, its crazy. I have no leaks and will not need to do any clean up next time around. Only cost around $3 too.

But your frankenlifted, i'm not! I can barely fit my head (on a creeper) under the front end.

I talked to gopherbeats, he put 75w90 front and rear. He had no problems. 80w90 is only a little thicker. I give it a shot, if i hear/feel any problems. I'll drain it and find some 75w140.

Do you put the floor jack in the center of the crossmember? Is a 2 ton floor jack enough?

2 Ton jack should be more than enough, that's a little less than the whole KJ weighs and you're only lifting the front end, so you should be all set. Just my .02

When I lift I put the floor jack under the (4) bolts at the end of the transmission cross member. This will lift the whole side. Then place the jack stand at the stock jacking point, or wood timbers under the tire. Unless I want the wheel free, I normally use ramps for the front.

I've lifted under the lower control arm also. I can't see how that is a weight concern, but it may be more likely to slide out.

In the rear, I lift under the pumpkin or under the front of the lower control arm where it attaches to the body. I see the guys at a tire shop near me lift there all the time. He told me their floor jacks last them about a month. :shock: They are outside on rough concrete and gravel.

Anyone know what size the rear diff bolts are. My 1/2"-3/8" adapter broke inside a socket!! :shock:
