Post subject:  Where to buy front cv axle?

I went to Napa to get remanufactured front cv axles for my 2005 2.8l and the company that supplies them says the do not make them anymore??. Anyone know of another source for remanufactured for front cv axles? Thanks.

Not going to lie, I think it is BS as well but that is what they told me, so don't have another choice unfortunately. I even strenuously objected but to no avail.....

So I tried to order it through NAPA.com. Went through but then got an email today saying it was canceled because they don't carry them/discontinued. Also said try local store for supply that may still be in the system. So back to square one, any suggestions for alternate sources for front cv axles?

Just be aware, if it has a core charge, you are responsible for the return shipping.

So I Think I figured out issue. Cardone (I believe) does the remanufactured CVs for NAPA. They are making them for 3.7 but not CRD (everysite shows them discontinued). So looking like my choices are either remanufactured by USA industries or new from AutoZone (Duralast gold). Does anyone have experience with either of these? I found some reviews on usa industries, about 50/50, some said their remanufactured CVs had shorter shafts (didn't say what vehicles) some had no issues. Read all the threads about new ones having shorter shafts issues, etc. so I will take any advice I can get.

So I had (I didnt buy it) a new Oreily shaft. And it didnt last long. Less than 5k miles. Literally blew apart. Im sure it was too long becuase it was wearing on the shaft itself. Took it up to napa and got a reman replacement. They said the place that does the rebuilding will spec it out and if its not right.....trash

hope this helps...

The Detroit axle listing was very helpful, thank you.

So I talked to Detroit Axle. They show 3.7l, 2.4l, and 2.8l as being all the same CV axle, (although he did note there may be a difference between 2.4l and 3.7l). From what I have read that is not the case and the CRD has different shaft lengths. I have also seen the 2.8l and 2.4l being listed as the same on some websites for new ones which appears to be correct. I just wanted to see if anybody knew something different before I agree to buying 2.4l CV axles.

Comparing MOPAR part numbers:
2.8L
Right - 52111780AB
Left - 52111781AB

2.4L
Right - 52111780AB
Left - 52111781AB

3.7L
Right - 52111778AB
Left - 52111779AB

That will suck if there are no Good places to get parts like this soon.. maybe IDparts.com would stock them for us if that happens but I did fine this on Auto Zones web site.

This is a good thread, any reports back on the durability of different make CV axles that are still available?

The only ones that last because they are the correct length are Napa reman's.

Thanks man. So, I called Napa with the part number from this thread, and since reading several threads on the subject, I looked for 4 cylinder and diesel cv's, but they only list V6 for 02-05, and as usual the Chrysler part number is useless. Any tips on finding one? I know other people said they were discontinued, hmm

I see ID parts and some other place online have the 52111780AB listed for about $300 shipped with core charge included in that price, ouch!

Ok, guy on pirate said Mopar only.

Probably not the highest quality but the price is reasonable.

Thanks flash. I decided to run used OEM one (free) since they seem to last a really long time if the intermediate shaft is greased and the o ring replaced. i have a set sitting around with 88k miles on them, and good boots. I'd like to see more reviews on those amazon ones you linked. I hear prior mention Detroit asked, but I don't see a diesel or 4 cylinder option. I should call them, but I'm in a hurry to get my jeep back together.
