Hey folks. The auto transmission in my 06 Libby does some strange things sometimes. When I'm going up a hill at cruising speed it will shift UP into a higher gear rather than down. Picture this. Headed up a hill right around 65 to 70 kph. Revs right around 1800, maybe 1900 rpm. Once the load of the hill slows my jeep down a bit, it'll shift UP into overdrive. Rpms drop to about 1000 to 1100 and it just sits there. It then needs A LOT of throttle input to get it to shift down. When it does shift, it heads right into 2nd gear sending the Revs to about 2500. Is this a common thing or do I have a problem with my transmission? |

I live in the mountains and when I'm going up a hill at like 30-40 MPH (don't know what that is in KPH and don't feel like googling a converter |

I wonder if there's a tuner out there that can change the shift points..... |

We've owned it for a few years now but it was my wife's vehicle. She wanted something newer and I just couldn't stand the idea of trading it in, so I kept it for myself.... |

Yup....same issue on my 02. I live up in the mountains too and found to just leave "OD Off" in the off position. It seems to hold a particular gear better when climbing without it. If I can get some decent speed going into the climb, I will, but on some of the really steep stuff gong over passes I let it go the speed it wants to and don't force it. |

Pretty normal for the 42RLE,much more normal if your running tires larger then stock and have not re-geared or have the speedo recalibrated. |

Sucks doesnt it.. Thats always been a huge pet peeve of mine with the 42rle. The 42re in 94 ZJ shifts so nice, it wont lock the torque converter till after 45mpg IF youre NOT in the throttle. It waits till youre obviously on level ground to lock up. Just gotta be rough with her, she'll eventually unlock. Sometimes you think the engine is going to die from low rpms, its all about trying to save gas.... |

I guess that's some good news then. I didn't want to replace a tranny. |

Same thing to buddy's Liberty, especially on stiffer climb. |

I got reminded of this annoyance on my way to work this morning. Anyone else have their transmission upshift in the acceleration lane on the highway and the only way to downshift to pick up speed is mash the accelerator to the floor? Sent from my XT1058 using Tapatalk |
