I pulled a code. P0740, so guessing a new transmission is in my future. With 185k miles, i guess its that time.

Any other symptoms?
I looked up a p0740 code and that seems to indicate a torque converter lockup clutch problem. Which could be a solenoid problem or a torque converter problem.

No other issues. But two transmission shops both advise to rebuild it with 184k miles. Honestly, I wanna do it right.

Pulled the same code (P0700/P0740/P728) last month albeit on a 42RLE at 160k...New Torq Converter, and Trans. Upon removal, the Torq converter was not engaging, and there was play in the whole transmission at the output. Pump was not engaging either.

I would call the guys at ATS transmissions to see if they could help you out with a new one. I installed theirs, and it is AWESOME...

They go through the whole thing, and update it. Better clutch packs, better torq converters as they hone the stator for better/quicker lockup, update selnoids...the works. Build it like the factory should have. Pluss they have a bullet proof 5yr mile warranty. It ran me 1900 for the trans and 400 for the converter...

I did a bunch more to it, and a write up will follow. But took a trip accros the mountains this weekend, and for the first time it did not struggle going over the Great Smokey Mountains...in fact it tore up the mountains without puting my foot into it.
