When I bought my Liberty a couple years ago, there was one small area of spots on the hood. Now they seem to have developed in other areas. Anyone else had anything like this or know a way to stop it without re-painting the entire jeep?

Hope that is not some rust build up on the inside. Share some pics.

This started at one corner of the hood but now it's at all 4 corners, top edges of the doors and other spots. It almost looks like there was dust on the paint when the clear coat was applied, but I've been told this paint isn't applied that way. And why would it get so much worse over the last couple years?

After looking around and doing some searches, it is called clear-coat failure. And I am pretty sure I dont plan to pay for a new paint job to fix it. Will see how much worse it gets. Maybe once I lift it I'll do a rattlecan camo job or something.

Get a da polisher and proper pads and some compound. And then polish and seal it. Have you kept the Jeep waxed or sealed its whole life?

Hoosier, I bought the jeep in December of 13 with 20K miles. Of course then almost immediately the Navy sent me to a ship based in Spain til last March and the Jeep sat in the Nex longterm storage lot for about 16 months. And since I moved to Baltimore it sits semi-neglected on a uncovered parking pad since i am required to use a work vehicle during the week. But I managed to break 40k last weekend. I waxed before left for Spain and maybe twice since I got here. I am mostly used to older cars, my older truck and mustangs had single layer paint, you could buff out.

Ah ok. Thanks for your service!

At this point, try getting a Porter cable 7424 and some proper pads (I can direct you). I'm thinking wet sanding could fix this, but I don't know for sure without seeing it. Wouldn't hurt to try if you're going to repaint anyway.
