Hello All,
I've followed the forum for a while, but just signed up to get your inputs. Have an 04 Liberty 4x4 Sport, and after 133K miles and 9+ years with my fat butt in them my front seats are not providing a lot of support anymore. Any recommendations on replacement, or should I try to find a shop (St Louis area) to replace the padding and recover them? I've done most of the mechanical work on it, so have no problem removing and replacing the seats, but have no skill with upholstering.

The upholstery isn't that hard to work with, as the seat covers come in a bottom and top piece that just zip on. The hardest part is cutting and reattaching the hog rings that hold the upholstery in place under your butt and back, but hog ring pliers are not that expensive. Just need hand strength and take lots of breaks. Underneath the upholstery is yellow foam padding that probably needs replacing because it isn't as supportive as it used to be. If your upholstery isn't in too bad shape, you could reuse your seat covers or get new. This would also be the perfect time to install a heated seat kit too, because the heating pads go between the foam and the upholstery. (I know about how the seats work because I took mine apart to install a heated seat kit.)

Hadn't thought about adding heat. But I have seen a place in town advertising padding cut to order, so that may be an option. I do want to replace the upholstery too, since the driver's side has a couple wear spots from getting in and out. Did you replace your upholstery when you installed the heat? This may be on hold till later in the spring--I seem to have a leak in my power steering system--gotta trace that down and repair it.

Thanks.

I reused my original cloth upholstery when installing the heater seat kit. It was still in decent shape. My Jeep is the basic Sport trim so it didn't come with too many options. This time of year the heated seat kit is one of my favorite mods. :D

back when i ran a mitsu dealership and sold CJD's as well i had several customers that had their stuff customized by Katskins - including stuff like heated seats. the quality of materials and workmanship seemed better than factory stuff

was cheaper than factory equipment costs for adding stuff like heated seats and leather if desired than factory too lol

just an option
