I'm planning on redoing the wheel bearings in my M116A3 trailer soon, and I have a question that I'm sure your collective experience can answer. For those of you who do your own bearings, what is your opinion regarding where you get your wheel bearings? I'm seeing China-made ones available for 1/3 to 1/4 if the price of Timken bearings and races made in Ohio. I am all for supporting the American worker, especially if they make a superior product. Does 4x the price turn out to be 4x the quality, or lasts 4x as long? It would certainly be a lot more expensive to use Timken bearings and races but if that means they will basically last forever (with the appropriate preventative maintenance) then I am all for it. Opinions and experiences please!

unless i cant help it, all my trailer bearings are SKF with georgia seals or timken or us nationals pretty much all of them carry a line thats "made in china" , i can say this though, leonards was selling some trailers that had some obvious Chinese bearings, wafangdian which i think have GWG stamps, and it was a downright catastrophe, if those trailers got used, those bearings ended up replaced

Trust me, trailer bearings or tires are not something that you want to cheap out on!!! Results of either one failing at high speeds can have horrible catastrophic consequences...ask anyone who has experienced one! Tires can tear up all kinds of things when they come apart, and bearings overheating to failure can weld themselves to a spindle destroying it and the hub and leave you on the side of road stranded! eTrailer sells some premium bearings, and some Timken bearings at decent prices. Northern Tool sells some nice Ultra-Tow hub kits with bearings that are greaseable from the outside of the hub via a zerk fitting similar to the EZ Lube spindles or Dexter Axles have. I have two trailers with the zerk grease fittings on the end of the spindles and they work really great!
